Code 004987 / P0546 exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor

This code just popped up in my 35D and I found this on tunemyeuro:

"Fault Code: 004987 - Exhaust gas temperature sensor upstream of the catalyst, signal - Solution: Replace EGT #1 or it may be plugged into the wrong socket"

Which sensor is EGT#1? I have only this code in my DDE and it's causing the engine light to be on. I looked on RealOEM and there's a ton of different exhaust temperature sensors... How do I know which one to replace? Thanks

First check it’s plugged right. Is your car stock?

car is stock - the only sensor I've had disconnected recently is the one at the top of the EGR cooler while doing the thermostat. It looks like it's fully seated on there... maybe I'll try contact cleaner on it. The code seems to be pointing more to number 12 in the diagram in the attached picture though, right?

That’s another thing to check is for any recent work that has been done on the vehicle. Check the sensor you had disconnected first. They could be interconnected code wise.

Before replacing anything why not check with the diagnostic tool if it is reading temperature correctly ?

Did you ever locate the location of the sensor? I’m having this same issue.
