Do you think that fuel has anything to do with the potentially faulty valve? I used BP just prior to the new-old pump going out.

Clarify re new pump

Are the bimmerfest threads correct that the previous Siemens pump is being phased out for a new Bosh pump? and does that mean all 2008's (productn approx sept)will be getting the new Bosh pump?

is your pump replacement 13-53-7-537-320 a newly modified pump of the old design ? or is it a new Bosh pump?

As far as i know it may be a manufacturing issue with the pump for a certain production date Im not a 100% sure. I know that for sure its an internal problem with the pumps but im not sure if all are affected (prior to march 07)
If i had to take a guess and knowing bmw from previous recalls i would have to say that anything prior to march 07 may be affected by this problem.

the "higher ups" didnt really go into it that deeply

but I would have to bet that based on the cost of the pump that it will not
be a recall. Plus there really arent that many 335's out there (say compared to 325 or 330.) But once again this is just a guess - if i find out anything further I will repost.

Fuel may be an issue- i know that we were having problems with high ethanol fuel killing intank pumps on other cars. bmw recommends less than 10% ethanol content.

The pump I put in didnt have any manufacturing names on it. If the 320 pump is the same part number as the failed pump I would have to bet that this is another "bad" pump. Usually when they update a part they change the part number and delete the old part number so It cannot be used - bmw asks for all the old part numbers back to "clear the stock"

I believe Bosch rumor got started from the posts by Fubarsky and Bimmerforlife in this thread (please read). I simply propagated the rumor over to Bimmerfest, in response to a question on the fuel pump status..

it´s been many months and all is still confusing re the ¨new pump¨if it even exists. when i asked the BMW tech (see 2 posts up) a few specific questions, he said alot - but he actually did not seem to say anything at all.

i just hope in sept when they build my ´08 335, a BMW pump worth it´s retail price is in it.

anyone got any more than rumor type info??

To me it's a "rumor" if it's 2nd hand info. However, those guys repeatedly claim that their dealership told them - this is two different dealers in different parts of the US. Why not simply call the salesperson at Pacific and ask?

Thumbs up New Fuel Pump

My first post here guys but here goes...

I ordered my 335i Convert on 5-15-07. Due to be finished with production tomorrow. I called BMW NA today about production status and asked about Fuel pump issues I have heard so much about. The guy I spoke with "Sonny" said the issue is 100% resolved on all new BMW 335 produced after early or mid March 2007. This is still somewhat 2nd hand info but at least directly from BMW NA and the guy said it without hesitation and did NOT sound like he was giving me what I wanted to hear. Anyway, hopefully car will be here in a month and will post again if any problems or comments. Until then CAN"T WAIT to drive it!!!!

JUST ANOTHER UPDATE FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED.

TODAY I SPOKE WITH A BMW FSE (FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER) AND GOT SOME SURE INFO ON THIS FUEL PUMP ISSUE.

FIRST ALL CARS BEFORE 1-07 HAVE FAULTY (OR POTENTIALLY FAULTY)
FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED.
CARS AFTER THAT DATE AND TILL 3-07 MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BAD PUMPS DUE TO BAD STOCK THAT WAS STILL FLOATING AROUND.

ACCORDING TO THE FSE THERE IS NO MANUFACTURING CHANGE ON THE PUMPS. THUS THIS IS WHY THE PART NUMBER HAS STAYED THE SAME. THE LONG WAIT FOR PUMPS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE MANUFACTURE CANT KEEP UP WITH DEMAND - THEY ARE SUPPLYING BOTH THE PUMPS FOR THE ASSEMBLY LINE AND REPLACEMENT PUMPS FOR THOSE OF US WITH FAILED PUMPS.

HE ALSO STATED THAT THERE MOST LIKELY WOULD NOT BE ANY KIND OF RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. JUST A CASE BY CASE REPLACEMENT.

I WAS TOLD BY HIM THAT THE WAIT FOR PUMPS HAS BEEN DRASTICALLY REDUCED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER IS STARTING TO CATCH UP .

THAT INFO IS DIRECTLY THE BMW FSE SO IT SHOULD BE ACCURATE.

Interesting information. Do you know also if when is the pump most likely to fail? I don't think I've read someone with a failed pump that has over 10K miles.

First, I know cross posting is not allowed but feel under the circumstances this applies here:
Wonder why then that this person with a May build also has the dreaded fuel pump defect.

Looks like BMWNA employees got some kind of a directive, how to answer the faulty fuel pump related questions

Guys - give me a break Im only giving you the info im that im told....
how many people with a may production --- one??---

bmw became aware of this problem in jan 07 but that doesnt mean that every car after that date has a good pump. Plus parts fail normally - just because a may 07 prod. had a failed fuel pump doesnt mean that they are still installing bad pumps!

I have seen brand new cars with less than 3000 miles come in with bad engines, transmissions etc.... may be a case of a defective part - not part of the known fuel pump issues

Thanks for your input. However, I am sure BMW was well aware of the problem in October 2006, not in January 07. The first service note I saw was dated in October and my own car was diagnosed then and got a replacement in early December.

They have had a Fuel pump issue, an overheating issue and a faulty power steering pulley that upon disintegration causes all kinds of havoc in the engine compartment (mine took out the main front seal when it went). Roach theory says if there are three problems early, there will be more later on. Who knows what else will be a surprise to BMW.

Since these engines cost over $15,000 each not counting installation labor, I am proud to say as an early adaptor that paid cash, I got the shaft. I was planning on keeping the car for many moons, but that doesn’t' look like a smart idea now.

Now all makes sense ...

My car has supposed to be delivered Mid of May 2007 ( production date 2007-04-24 ). Then BMW said, the leather for the interior is not avaliable and I got the car 3 weeks late. As of today they still continue telling every 335i customer the leather is not available.

As mentioned above, week 19 builds have same problems, so this would seem to be yet more incorrect information.

FWIW....

I just got my car back yesterday after being in the shop for 29days... Same fuel pump issue.

The work order says the "new pump" FP-Number is 13-53-7-537-320

I was told that it's a different pump than the original pump that was in my car, but now I'm a bit skeptical.

Just so you know that part # is the exact same part # on the Jan 2007 Technical Service bulletin. Alot has already been mentioned about that, could be BMW changed part of the design to the pump without the need for a whole new part #.

Asked my dealer about this issue yet again, probably the 4th time I've asked (hey I consider $50K alot of cabbage), he said he again spoke to the service forman and stated to him that BMW has addressed and fixed this issue. Dealer would not pinpoint a exact time the issue was fixed only that it was addressed and fixed months before my car went into production this month. He said that during the time the issue was being fixed (months ago) that BMW held up alot of 335's at the port not allowing them to be taken to the dealers until the issue was fixed., he stressed again that BMW has fixed this issue with the FP.

2nd Pump Installed, New Design

My 2nd pump has been installed after they replaced my first one (6,400 miles) and replaced with the same one, new, it went out.
The part number on my reciept is Part # 13-53-7-537-320.
Took almost 2 full months to get in. Now have 14,700 miles.

Many have posted it's alot of work to Lemon the car. Your best bet is to call BMW NA directly and tell them 22 days is not acceptable and you are not getting off the phone until someone helps you. Even step above the person your talking to, if you still get no help, tell them you will continue to call back every 5 mins till someone helps you or calls you back right away. You need Priority 1. Someone on this forum did that and got a call from higher ups at BMWNA and got resolution quicker. Remember the squeeky wheel gets the grease.
