Fuel gauge never reads full
Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2010 335d. I saw that when I first bought the car the fuel gauge was only 7/8 full after the dealer filled her up. I have refilled the car 2 additional times and it registered 7/8 full and today 3/4 full. All were at different gas stations. I do think the tank is full I have put close to 17 gal in. Is this normal? Should I expect different levels of filling at different diesel pumps? Is this a gauge problem? Thanks! |

This doesn't sound normal. It may be a gauge problem or a problem with the way the tank is ventilated.
Occasionally, it is the way in which you fill up or the way in which a particular nozzle works, but if you are doing it right and have tried different stations, it may be the car's fault. PL |

You should have questioned the dealership on the spot about this:
"If I fill up and this 7/8 stuff persists, I'm bringing it right back and you guys are fixing this for free." Hate to say it but the best way sometimes is to be brutally honest and blunt. They obviously knew the 7/8 fuel gauge was an issue and yet they were still dicks to sell you the car with nary a mention about it. |

Thank you. My car is CPO only since it has just over 50k miles. I think that no matter what it will be a problem to get it fixed without a fee. I will definitely try. Will update.

The cluster could have been opened and altered with (mileage) and needles were not put back properly. I've never heard of servos that move the needles just die on their own or start malfunctioning like that.
Was the car a lease return? |

Try to top it off up to the filler neck maybe? Find a nice pump that will pump slowly. Diesel foaming associated with a fast pump will cause the auto shut off to trigger before being full.

I finally took my 2010 335d CPO in to the dealer because there was a clunk coming from the back left suspension over any bump. Turns out it was a loose bolt. I also had them look into my gauge never reading full. They diagnosed it as both fuel sensor malfunction, replaced them under the CPO warranty (minus the 50 dollar deductible). It works great now! They also filled up my tank with diesel (I dropped it off with less than half a tank of gas).
