not that im a tech, but from what i understand when the Diverter re-routes the air into the intake for the fraction of a second that it does, all that it accomplishes is relieves some of the vacuum pressure the engine is putting on the intake for that fraction of a second. Then the engine goes back to working as hard as it has been through the rev range to intake air.

So, correct me if im wrong, but by re-routing to atmosphere all we are doing here is not giving the engine/intake a little boost/break from vacuum pressure for a fraction of a second. I doubt this greatly hinders performance on a 300hp TT car.

So its noise vs. a very small fraction of a second faster (if anything)

I'm no expert but I do have a comment on this;

I came from a subaru so Im familiar with BOV's, more importantly the need not to use them. BOV's really are pointless unless you're swapping out for larger turbos.
But more importantly, the were issues with cars (subarus) with BOVs (atmospheric, not recirculating) cause the car to run rich momentarily slightly hindering performance. No known aftermarket remapping ever solved this problem. Most of the kids that put these units on didn't really care about the performance just sound. I couldn't imagine doing this to this car (335i). With so many fancy sensors and an iffy HPFP, why risk it?

Just thought I could give a little comment based on what I've learned.
Thanks

Ok, I can say that after several months of running my car like this, there were no apparent ill mechanical effects, BUT it sprays oil all over the engine compartment. It makes a mess.

is this true of all BOVs or just if you use the stock dvs?

Lots of talk on this by people who are really just guessing. BMW bypass vales recirculate into intake tract for one main reason: so there is no blow off noise.

Pulling off the hose and plugging the intake gives you the noise BMW and other car makers engineer out. There is no significant negative effects of this mod.

There is a slight one: BMW has calibrated the a/f on these cars to very tight tolerances. If you do the mod, your car will run slightly rich for a split second after shifting. On Audis, it would actually trigger an engine check light, but I've never heard of this happening on BMWs.

One solution would be to cut the hose and add a plastic T, so that you have the noise and still some recirculation.

I just took the entire cowl and air box out.

I cannot hear mine!!!! At all!!! WTF.

I did it correctly and my plugs are tight. I'm kind of pissed, because I spent a lot of time on this with the cowl removal.

Just got done with this and I'm pretty happy with it. Not as loud as was hoping for but then again it isn't obnoxious which is great. You should definately be able to hear this if you did it correctly.

I did the electrical tape over the bung then screwed a plastic oil cap over it and taped over that just to be sure. I also pointed the hoses downwards in the bay to avoid getting oil over anything

If someone decided to online and buy a legit BOV like a Tial or HKS (not AA, they're too proud of their product), what would be the cheapest place to get it?
