part # for OEM battery?

I am looking for a black friday deal on a battey.

2008 328i - I am not sure how many different batteries can in this model/year car? I think depending upon the sound system installed, there may be different batteries?

Where can I look up the part number for my battery? Is it ON the battery that is in my car now?

Any other help is appercaited. Looking to get the best possible deal this friday for a battery... or looking for like a 15-20% off "labor coupon" or something.

Best deal I've found on battery is from www.getbmwparts.com even with the shipping.... Plus they tell you what the model number is for the battery.

Locally I'm told there are a few shapes and sizes that will work in my car however I don't want a smaller capacity... nor do I plan on re-coding or want to have to figure out how to bolt down a different size battery plus the difference in price is negligible to non-existent. Finally the old battery can be taken anywhere for credit that further reduces price vs local.

One word of caution wrestling the super heavy battery is a beast and the odd cabling connections and number of cables doesn't make it any easier

Getbmwparts or tisherbmw has by far the best price anywhere.

This is for oem battery and with $14.95 shipping. Total is right under $190

Even if you use the very same battery size/type/etc. - you should still go thru the 'Battery Registration' process to tell the car a new/fresh battery has been installed so that it charges appropriately - which still entails using a cable & software (or paying the dealer to do it )

Sorry fellas, we don't offer shipping service on BMW batteries because they're considered hazardous material(acid).

They're one of the few things that we don't ship, unfortunately(batteries, keys, windshield glass, etc.).

That makes complete sense but just ruined my black Friday shopping.... off to research batteries now.

I got a cheap elm OBD2 and gonna try via bluetooth and my cell. However if that doesn't work it's not worth the price of a battery, in shop time just to have the battery registered.... even if the battery lasts three years instead of six.... I come out even... and then I probably won't even own the car still.

But it's still good advice

I ve seen some people in here the forums who bought theirs at Walmart or Auto zone and no registration was needed but I guess it depends what battery you have.

You might try to research how registration affects not just the battery but also the IBS and other electrical components. My understanding is that if the battery is not registered, it may result in an under OR overcharging condition. When the IBS on my E91 developed an intermitent fault, it was sending out 17.5 volts, & I was told that could adversely affect some electric components. As it was, the car would stall, show error messages and ultimately a new battery ( as well as alternator & IBS) was required.

Damnit, why does every battery thread turn into a registration issue. Get your damn batteries registered, this is not a Honda civic. Why do ppl keep arguing this? You can drive without registering your battery yes, does it make it a good idea? No! I can drive around for 50,000k without changing my oil, does that make it a good idea? Just register the damn battery.

Now, back to my question, where can I get an oem part number?

There are (13) possible batteries listed for your car of various mfg./Size/Type

The AH value and A value should be on the battery itself. As for the type (AGM vs. Regular)-I know when you run your VIN# it tells you this info & it's also on your original window sticker. Don't know if that info is on the battery as I never really paid attention...

Once you look on battery for AH & A values, check the list below for appropriate P/N (always use the new number if it states that it has been superceded)
  • 61218381738 BATTERY FA. DOUGLAS (WARRANTY ONLY) - 70AH 570A
  • 61216946332 BATTERY FROM EXIDE (WARRANTY ONLY) - 70AH 570A (to 06/08)-61216946332 was superseded by 61217586960.
  • 61217586960 BATTERY FROM EXIDE (WARRANTY ONLY) - 70AH 570A
  • 61217553951 BATTERY, EAST PENN (WARRANTY ONLY) - AGM 70AH 760A
  • 61218381749 BATTERY FA. DOUGLAS (WARRANTY ONLY) - 80AH 640A
  • 61216946333 BATTERY FROM EXIDE (WARRANTY ONLY) - 80AH 640A (to 06/08)-61216946333 was superseded by 61217586961.

  • 61217586962 BATTERY FROM EXIDE (WARRANTY ONLY) - 90AH 720A

I paid $280 a year ago, installed/registered at a BMW dealer. imho do I wish it were $53 for top of the line Die Hard Gold and diy like my Nissan? Of course. But I felt $280 was reasonable given the high list price of the battery....I've seen 94R's in auto parts stores and they look very similar, but I rather go OEM....

I agree with you. We all want to save money, but imho there are times to just part with it. It would be like getting 4 new tires, and not paying the $59.99 (not a BMW) for the alignment. Yeah, you saved $60, but there'll be extra wear on the tires which will have a shorter life.

Use the search button got to www.getbmwparts.com as several have already mentioned... look up the battery for your car. Do some research and calm down. Hell stumble into Sears mumble battery and point to car sitdown and read the old magazines...or the dealership a battery store, Walmart or wherever they all have the answer to your question. Or hey here is a novel idea look at the actual battery write down the numbers on top perhaps take a snappy snap with your wifes cell phone. For someone that has seen multiple threads turn into coding why don't you use the number written in those threads???

There is a good deal on everything at Advance Auto Parts - 20% off plus $50 gift card till 11/22/2012. I bought battery for $150 there is a$12 core charge so its gonna be 138 + $50 gift card = $88 total. Battery comes with 3 year replacement and 7 years warranty.

I tend to like that idea...then do whatever the registration process is.

just curious, where did you get yours registered? or did you do it yourself?

I have the Cobb device, but don't know if I can use that to register the battery. Likely not....
