It's because the car, even in stock form, is too fast for regular roads and speed limits. If you were driving responsibly, I can see why it felt boring. A lot of it also has to do with the turbo engine and the way it delivers power. It's exciting when you step on it, but then you are way past the speed limit and have to cruise or slow down. Cars with NA engines paired to a MT are more fun to drive on the roads for me because you have to work the gear box to get all the power you can from the engine.

I think you are right its right in between the e30 is fun because i can go though a few gears and still be at a managable speed

If my 335i had a lot more power and was a little hairy to drive it would feel more fun right now its too fast to do much with on the street but not fast enough that it fights for traction and gets your adrenaline going its just really quick so there is not much emotion while driving it

I am happy just knowing I could get to 250 kph if I had to. I like how it effortlessly climbs hills or takes an onramp. Without drama. It makes me smile, especially since I know it can do more.

So yeah im not into sporty noisy cars. Still I'm not always an angel. Sometimes I know there are no cops then I grab the paddle shifts.

Can't think of a better car for my taste. An m3 or other pricy top end car would stress me out. I need comfort and calm not provided by subaru sti or such. I find Lexus or Benz almost ugly.

People can have their Evos and STIs. I've been there and done the Evo thing before. For me the main reason the 335i is so great is that it does what it does with minimal fuss. It's effortless, comfortable and can blow your average Evo out of the water. I don't care how fast it gets to 60. It's the effortless mid range punch that makes it such a good car.

+ 1 well said. It's a preference though. No one's preference is better than another's.

18x8.5 et 35 BBS CH with 245/40/18 tires and 15mm H&R spacers in the back. Also, its easy to rotate front to back and spend a lot less on tires - another added benefit!

A stock 335i is boring as fuck.

Now, a modified one on the other hand is an absolute riot. The biggest change to me with a tune was the throttle response. Gone was the dead and numb right pedal and it became far more playful.

Get a protune, even if all you have is 91 octane. Add a set of coilovers and watch the grins take place.

Square wheels? I'll stick to round wheels for now...

I know the feeling. Had the same thing in my evo and now the 1M after a not very long honeymoon phase. Both feel manic and and handful compared to a soft sloppy family car, but still feel a little muted/muffled vs the more raw experience 80's sports cars offer. Depends what you want out of a drive I guess. 80's sports cars tend to be fatiguing as well. I can drive the 1M for hours and still be able to get out without a sore back. If you can have both there's no need to sell either.

I am running staggered setup myself but with all due respect your comment did not make much sense to me at all. The square setup clearly has its advantages and can't be just written off easily as "not right".

The square set up vs staggered you might prefer one for your driving style but lets not go as far as saying one method is the only right way to go.

To the OP I have lived with my E9x for 6 years. Each year I did something to modify and kept making it more of what I preferred. However, E9x will be more refined and less raw than a car that is couple of generations old. Also, the rawness, and lack of being refined leads to it being more closer to the elements and drama of driving which can be quiet fun in it self.

If one day you can come to appreciate what E9x is, and for what purpose it was designed, you would come to like it and appreciate it for what it is. If you are trying to improve its driving dynamics. I would first start with a tune, then suspension and tire/wheel upgrades. For me the Catback exhaust, downpipes, and BOV all improved the theater & drama in sound department too. Good luck to you and hope you can enjoy your car like I have been able to with mine.
