Ordered

Well I popped over to the dealer today and ordered a new E90. Thanks to all who gave advice (wallet sapping although most of it was ) on what I should go for.

So what did I do?

ALMOST bought the 325D, but in the end the Efficient Dynamics on the 320D swung it and a 320D it is, economy is important to me. If the 123D's engine was available it would have been that.

Didn't go for the M-Sport, in the end I plumped for:

160 Alloys (still haven't seen them in the flesh, but hey ho)
USB
HiFi upgrade
Heated Seats (I live in the North of Scotland)
Xenons

So, now I just have to wait. They said January when I was discussing, but today my salesman (nice chap by the way) said he reckoned it would come in December as things are quieter at this time of year. Got a good discount and a decent trade-in price so I'm pretty happy with the whole deal.

Good choice the 320d much more bottom end than the 320i, I was going to get that version but I was on a budget!.

December delivery sound good, a nice early christmas present to yourself and it sounds like you got a great deal.

I am sure you will enjoy your new purchase

My Business partner has the 160 alloys on his 320D - you did not menton what colour you have gone for? His is sparkling graphite (although with 2 yrs worth of very infrequent car washes it is now dull graphite!!)

Wheels look good BUT do take some cleaning. Look ace when they are done tho. Get yourself some decent wheel cleaning spray (I use the Megs' stuff) and a couple of conical wheel brushes from Halfrauds and you will be well away, lol

Hi-Fi is a must IMO (why oh why I did not choose it still baffles me and still winds me up ) and the USB interface is great - no more CD's rattling around and a neat Ipod secured in a leather holder under the armrest

Hope it arrives quickly and enjoy!

Yikes, thats a long time, I'd be tempted to take it in Jan, not wait until March (can't say the reg thing moves me much).

Funnily enough, I've ordered SG as well! Hopefully I'll keep it a bit nicer. I did think the 160s may need some extra care. I'll like the Megs stuff, so I'll get their alloy clear, thanks Nice to hear they look good, I've never seen 'em!

Great choice. The 320 does seem the better buy over the 325, similar performance but much better economy.

The USB and HiFi are well worth going for, they are the only couple of extras I did spec (along with wood trim).

Xenons are standard aren't they?

Yes they should be standard then - I missed the E92 bit, but when he said he had spec'd xenons, just presumed he had chosen a saloon!

No wonder the stealer gave him that extra £600 discount

I don't think you can choose 160's on a coupe either - never seen one with em on - your sig pic is also an E90 headlamp!

I'll take that back then

Just had a look at the 160 wheels on the bmw site, they do look nice but also look like they will be a bugger to clean.

I did consider the coupe, had an E46 one. NO question the E92 is prettier than the E90, but four doors is more practical and the big doors on the E46 used to annoy me.

Yeah, I'm gonna treat them the day I get the car, to try and keep them looking good.

Congrats.

You've got the important boxes ticked with Xenons USB and HiFi. 160s should make it stand out nicely, just make sure you get a good wheel brush before it arrives.

Congrats scotw - good options all round.

Am I correct in saying that the engine in the 123d has twin turbos, but the 320d (120d) doesn't?

Yep looks like a twin turbo

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/bmw/bmw-123d-ar38598.html

Quote:
New rotor blades on the two turbochargers serve to enhance the efficiency of the VTT system, although the basic principle of VTT turbocharging remains unchanged: First, a small turbocharger cuts in at lower engine speeds, then a larger turbocharger additionally develops its effect as the driver calls up extra power and performance

Nice choice of car Scot.
I suppose I got to say it before Carlos does, but without the enthusiasm, you could consider a remap which would put you in 325 territory, potential better returns on fuel economy too, if you're careful with your right foot.

Enjoy.
