British humour is not in your face humour like the american type
you hear something and it takes you a while to understand it
a lot of play on words, double meanings etc
where american humour is very obvious and predictable
it's funny sometimes, don't get me wrong
eddie murphy standup, richard pryor, chris rock, seinfeld, chevy chase, SNL etc
but i always feel american humour is written quickly, where as the british humour takes a lot of thinking to come up with their jokes

First British shows can get away with saying more things without censorship than the US. So if the British show relies on lots of off color humor it will not work in the US, we have too many people who worry about what you might hear on TV let along what you hear on the street.

I said this before about TopGear they can say what ever they like about any car with not back lash in the US Tanner reps Ford so he can never say anything bad about Ford or any US car company they will pull all their advertising. Money Speak in the US especially when it pays for what you watch.

Top Gear has been around for many years in the UK but only got its current success with Clarkson, May and Hamster. You guys really like the show even with Clarkson taking the piss out of Americans?

You can't "Americanize" the Inbetweeners... It just wouldn't work. I love that show. My ex and I used to spend Sundays taking the train back to London from Newcastle watching the first three seasons over and over on her laptop. I just don't see it working over here for a few reasons. Not only is the humor different, but the different societal constructs/experiences of kids that age might not line up for everybody. Plus, we've already filled that genre here pretty well. There's plenty of tv based off of the American Pie model.
