Bad things come in threes...

...and I'm hoping that's all three.

After my car was hit, repaired, hit again, repaired again it is now having a sleepover at Sytner to have a new clutch fitted. At 1800 miles.

I'd been getting some judder when using the clutch in slow moving traffic, especially on an incline. I started getting all paranoid and questioned my driving style but then realised that after 20 years of driving I did in fact know how to use a clutch. Just in case I was laughed at I called at Quarry Motors in Sheffield and they replicated the problem easily. So booked it in at Sytner and they've had the car since this morning. I got a call this afternoon to say they replicated it too and a new clutch will be fitted. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

Hey Rich

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck, hopefully that's got it all out the way! How bad was this clutch judder?

I've had a bit of judder a couple of times now, I wouldn't say bad but definitely been noticeable. I thought I'd read it was a bit of a character trait with the 320d though?

You have had bad luck - I hope this ends that and you get to enjoy the car

Pretty bad. At times the whole car shook but more often it was a small but unpleasant judder that meant I dreaded getting stuck in traffic. I find the clutch to be a bit lacking in feel anyway and after reading about the (hopefully unrelated) CDV issue I don't think I'm the only one.

Hopefully it's a manufacturing fault and my troubles are over.

Note: I also read various posts regarding software updates to solve juddering and according to my dealer they are still being released. Mine though had the latest from build.

Just to add, I've now picked mine back up and the clutch feels quite different to how it was before. Much more 'springy' and possibly a little lighter. Let's it was a manufacturing fault.

Hope it's sorted then mate, like you say hopefully it was just a manufacturing defect.

I had a brand new Impreza WRX in 2002 which developed a bit of a judder after a couple of thousand miles. Initially I was told to do a couple of standing starts to sort it but Subaru ended up doing a recall and fitting a new clutch, flywheel and front drive shafts (thankfully all under warranty!) to sort it out. Think the repair bill was about £3000??
