Thanks JB, anybody else wants to chime in on the Direzzas?
And sorry for the OT!

I start at 34 cold and end up at 42-44 hot but they get greasy towards the end of a 20-25min session. Next time I go out my plan is to start out at 30 cold and take it up 1PSI per session. Now that the weather cooled down a bit I can focus on other things other that battling oil temps and limp modes.

the BFG R1's are ok, but are NOT forgiving. The line between grip and slip is nonexistent. |

Anyway, starting at 29f/32r cold and going to 35f/36r hot did wonders for me w/the StarSpecs. Lots of grip and they don't get greasy till the end. The downside seems to be loss of audio feedback at the edge, I noticed that at 35PSI they'll just straight skip when they lose traction. Oh well, done for the season here in the East Coast, more testing next year |

Looking back at the vids, virtually all the cars I passed or even lapped with 42 hot caught up to me during the session after the tires gave in, with 35/36 hot I at least had the chance to give some 911 TTs a run for their money :-) Last edited by mid-corner fun; 10-27-2010 at 08:52 PM.. |

Hello all, I'm new to the forum, but have been a track rat for years 16ish or so. Although I am not a fan of the R888's either, they are a hell of a lot more tire than Direzza's. To the OP, I think something is up, and although I have not taken the time to read the entire thread, I saw a lot of discussions about tire pressures etc. I rank the Star specs as one of the best street tires, but with no comparison to even the shittiest of R comps. I'm in Toronto and spend a lot of time at Mosport, there the r's are worth almost 4 seconds a lap. For those of you who don't know Mosport is an ex F1 circuit and has a very fast 10 turn layout, no really tight turns, so everything is about momentum and high lateral g's. That said i do prefer the RA1's from Toyo, too bad they aren't available anymore. NT01's I didn't like at all and Pilot sport cups last longer but ultimate grip is down from the r888's and ra1's. Just my two cents.

Was reviewing this thread and was wondering what sizes of tires were being used at the track? Does everybody use a squared setup when they switch to R compound or semi-R compounds?

Camber plates next. After that you're left up to your knowledge, preconceived notions and good or bad advice. We're all such marginal or even bad drivers that things like nitrogen are silly. Sure it might make a difference but all that time you left in any # of turns due to not great technique is more a more important issue. |
