my old 944s2 was fine for commuting ,the mpg was rather good for a 211bhp car ,but the alloys use to leak air so i had to check the tyre pressures every time i drove it ,i drove to manchester airport in a white out and managed ok ,the bmw would have been well and truely stuck ,it did use to steam up the windows alot though ,i think maybe i had leaky windows or seals somewhere or other ,but the 944 values are going skywards while my e92 needs a parachute

Yes, you're right Del. The blower motor wasn't up to much and the HRW had the odd element out too.

Unfortunately the 325 is not that desirable.

I agree with the time of year comment due to the fact that a company I've previously worked for (Restaurant industry) said that weeks in November are its quietist.

People are looking to buy gifts now, few people buy cars as gifts.

Also maybe being RWD scares people off of BMs at this time of year?

Lastly, yet something I thought at first, is the colour of your car. That maybe hindering the sale. I'm after black again next and maybe most other people are?

I remember a lad years back worked at Mercedes in the parts dept and was spec'in his Merc. He requested red leather and the dealer he worked for wasn't happy as they said it would knock a couple of grand off its future value when they had to sell it.

People are fussy. The majority of BMs and Mercs are silver or black. However boring that maybe.

I thought maybe 9-10 grand

so ive put it up at 9700 on autotrader (webuyanycar offered 8400 )
,no responses ,its been for sale for 3 weeks and i did troll the internet
looking at other cars the same for sale and mine seemed pretty cheap ,
but now LOL the arse seems to have fallen out of the market with e92 325i's
and 330i's going for 7500 whats gone on? this isnt seasonal and theyve
not got intergalatic mileage
I know it's off the BMW thread, however I had a VW Golf 25th Anniversary Edition that I have just sold. Mint condition with 50,445 miles on a 52 plate. Everyone on piston heads , auto trader etc are wanting £5 - £6k for the same with over double the miles. I struggled to get £3.5k. Came across several issues selling, firstly everyone wanted it for next to nothing, secondly advertised for £5,250 and people were say it's to much. re advertised for £4,250 and then it was to cheap and why is it re listed and oh you live in Cumbria it will cost me hundreds to get to you so I want my travel knocked of the price. In the end I was just glad to get rid of it as it sat here for weeks. Anyway good luck with your sale. It's a war out there and only the dealers win.

Without wishing to cause offence ;-) I suspect that the colour may be part of the problem too, in addition to the other things people have mentioned. Time of year will also play a big part as private buyers will be few and far between at this time of year, I am sure.

I'm not biased against the colour, I have a Crimson Red E90 and it was the colour I was determined to have (although white was tempting). I knew it was a less-than-mainstream buy when I chose it and that was reflected in the price for my pre-reg car. The majority of people I know, admittedly non-petrol heads, would not have chosen a red one although it gets compliments on the one day per fortnight that it is clean.

I'm still hoping that I am ahead of the curve, given the number of F30 press demonstrators in red, but suspect I will have moved the car on long before red really is "back in fashion" for large(ish) cars.

I get compliments about the car all the time but i'm dead fussy with cars and once ive made my mind to change my car thats it ,its going ,ive had it for nearly 2 years thats quite a long car ownership for me lol

I love the car but ! I want a car that I can put more into ,as Ive had a mr2mk1 for a while and really enjoyed my days of messing with it in the garage ,and I look at the bmw and think of it as more of a bourden ,because of how much it cost and what its worth ,and what else I could get that for that money as I said earlier I'm watching the cars I really love go up in value while the one I'm in goes down

You need to stop confusing asking price with sale price.

And what cars are you seeing go up in value?

And we all know what is scaring people away from older BMWs now.... its not cracked wheels either....

I'm after getting back into a 3 series again some 2 yrs after selling mine to fund a new kitchen. Can I ask what is scaring people away from older bmws? Cheers.

That doesn't sound too good .... Could you elaborate please? Are there certain years that aren't prone to theft? Thanks again, just catching up after a couple of years

I just bought an BMWAUC E92 335i M Sport 57REG for £14k OTR. 54k and has Nav PDC etc.
Considering that price includes a 1 year AUC warranty, 1 year tax, new rear brake discs/pads, front pads, 1 new tyre + 3 vgc and some other stuff I forgot what would you imagine the private sale value of this car is? Way less than what Autotrader might make you think.

I have been watching Autotrader on a daily basis for around a year now and it is a poor indication of the price you will actually have to pay as a buyer at this time of year. I made offers to plenty of dealers in the past few months knowing full well they'd be knocking a grand off the car in a month or so anyway. 2/3 of those cars are still on Autotrader and below the prices I offered I have seen BMW dealers cut £3.5k from a price over night, and mine had dropped £2k from the original listing price.

I don't know what advice to give you as a private seller. It is a buyers market at the moment. That may well change from March onward, but for sure around Christmas time most people are short of cash as it is. Judging by what Webuyanycar offered you though you should be able to get ~9100 without too much hassle.

What others said is true. I love the red personally, but unless you have cream leather to contrast and the M Sport styling, red wouldn't be the colour I'd pick, especially if I knew I'd want to sell the car quickly. Black is the safe option people love these days.

I'm guessing yours is the 2.5l 325i too which is less desirable for tax reasons.

Have to agree with those that see them dropping like a stone. I bought mine for 21k from BMW 12 months ago. Its looking like i'm going to be getting mid to low 16s for it now. 5k in 12 months is quite a drop though that does include the BMW dealer 'tax'.

You have to think about another way though. If you had offered to sell the dealer that car on the day you bought it, how much would they have offered you? Probably 19k?
