Bird crap and dead flies
When i go on a long journey, especially on the motorway, as you know you have a lot of bird crap stuck to your screen or car.
I was told there is some sort of application that you can apply to the car before your journey which doesnt let bird crap/ dead flies easily stick to your windscreen or car and makes it esier to remove without damaging the paint work - does anyone know about this or have recommendations? thanks |

I use RainX on the screen reapplied every month or two. Great for rain but definately helps stop crap sticking to the screen. I also use RainX additive for the washer fliud as well. I also add to the lights and number plate. Regular coating of Autoglym Gloss Protection helps with the paint.

A good polish and a good coat of sealant or Glaze with a wax on top does the job just fine.
As an examle just after I got the car the bonnet got the full treatment of above but a family emergency meant I didn't have time to do the front bumper. ( i was trying new last stage products thst why the bonnet got all the layers and the rest didn't) By the time I got backfrom my 60 mile journey the bumper was a graveyard but the bonnet was spotless. Now I know the bumper is vertical and the bonnet horizontal but the difference was massive, no bug streaks nothing! |

later BMW's have self healing paint. With bird crap, the paintwork is usualy stained, get a cup of near boiling water, poor it over the stained laquer and then watch it disappear, I didnt believe it, until one of the Valetors at a BMW dealership showed me.

I was having the same problem with insects and mess on the windscreen and decided to do something about it. I bought the rain repellent and glass cleaner from Halfords (Halfords brand). Clean the screen with the screen cleaner and apply the rain/water repellent. Do the same on the headlamps. I did this about 3 weeks ago and have hardly used the wipers since. Flies will still stick but are much more easily removed. The glass cleaner is designed to remove the rain/water repellant and also ensure a perfectly clean screen before applying the rain repellent. I ended up doing all the glass and the headlamps and it was worthwhile.

I use this stuff to get the bugs/tar/crap off
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washin.../prod_183.html leave on for a few minutes and the bug remains literally dissolve in front of you eyes! Then to keep a protective barrier on the paint, i use a couple of layers of this stuff http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/co.../prod_208.html The easiest wax i have ever used, and stays on for ages!! Very good stuff, once on all you need is a quick rinse to clean of all the crap off you car. I even put this stuff on the light lenses/window trims inc rubber it really is amazing stuff. Just my to pennys worth |
