And you know this how? The tips are different but the sound is 100% identical.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you'll spend 1k on a diffuser, but when it comes to lowering your car you go with $200 race springs? If your going to lower it, do it rite with coilovers. You'll thank yourself later. If you must do springs go with h&r sport until you can afford coilovers.

I have h&r sport springs sitting in my garage from my last e9x, but I just can't bring myself to do it just for the looks.

You sure they sound exactly the same? I remember a thread with a discussion about the difference. I know that there's different part #'s and one was a lot less $ than the other. (too lazy to search while on my phone)

I've heard them both. They have different tips so yea I'm sure they have different part#s. But they sound exactly the same. I highly doubt BMW spent any amount of time/money changing the Performance exhaust to make it unique to the 335is.
They added some different tips and thats it.

Nah. They sound different by a large margin. PE sounds more like other aftermarket exhausts.

Startup clips sound pretty much the same. Specs on each car would be helpful. It doesn't realllly matter to me. The exhaust on the 'is' is perfection imo. I'm simply curious to know if it really differs from the BMW PE.
The discussion I was referring to is here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=467296

I reread it and the part prices are different because the op was comparing just the mufflers from the 'is' to the price of the full BMW PE System. (I stand corrected)
One poster though says his PE is much louder than the 'is.' Maybe the real question is: Are the resonators and x-pipes identical?

H&R race springs are about as slammed as you can go. They have the stiffest ride and if you cheap-out and use your stock shocks your pretty much guaranteed to destroy them. Do your research!!!

(For those who recently joined the thread; this I the third or fourt time I've told him "do your research." I really should just give up, sit back, watch & laugh, but it hurts too much to see such a beautiful car destroyed)

...unless he's a troll and the jokes on me?

No. We both have the n54 but nice try on the blatant assumption.

Regarding those sound clips:

The difference in sound is very apparent when driving. You can't toss up freaking cold idle clips from two different people using different recording mechanisms and expect to bust a pepsi test on us. Just accept the fact that someone who owns one variant can tell a direct difference between the two exhausts.

And If I had to guess, the second clip is the PE.

Relax, bought Koni shocks too. I know H&R sports and race can destroy stock shocks but that's why I had them ordered separate. My bud has the springs for 1k milages n sold it to me for 170 so I took the deal. Rather than 375 brand new from H&R. But if it doesn't make me happy then I'll do kw2 coils ok? Geez.
