Non-RFT on front, RFT on rear?

ugh...need people's opinions...I hit a pothole with my driver's front tire, and sure enough, my stock Potenza RE050A RFT bubbled. local dealer says I should replace, at $460/tire! Tirerack w/shipping, etc is approx $300/tire. So, 2 questions:

question #1...do I still need to buy 2 tires? passenger front still has 2/3 to 3/4 of tread left (I have approx 8,000 miles). I'd hate to dump the passenger side because I bubbled the driver side.

question #2...what are the negatives to swapping the fronts with non-RFT, and keeping stock RFT on rear? ride quality, handling? would I need to swap the rears as well if I went non-RFT?

I was just thinking the same.
my fronts are still good, my rear left is good, but my rear right is almost done (13,500 miles).
what to do, buy one rft for the rear right?
buy 2 non rft's and replace both rear?
then the fronts are still rft's ?
LOL

not sure on this one, would like to know myself the best solution.

I would bite the bullet & just replace all 4 tires with General Exclaims ($460/set of 4) or Pirelli P-Zero Nero ($470/set of 4, on closeout) from the Tire Rack. I would add the BMW Mobility Kit ($96 @ Tischer BMW) as well.

will cause some weird issues if you are in the middle of a corner and have the different tread compounds gripping differently. See if you can buy used tires for cheap in the for sale forum here on the 'post. It really depends on how you drive really. If you are easy, it probably wont cause any issues, but there are no ways to really know for sure.

yeah don't go back to RFT, just get all new NON RFT's. You will love them and will NOT regret it.

I will never let go of the saying, that you get what you pay for. You ever notice how many people have the generals in 265s and say they cant hold traction through third? I have 235 PS2s, and rarely have traction problems.

When I switched from the stock RFT's, I replaced the rears first because they were bald then 6 months later I did the fronts. All I noticed was the GY F-1's I put on the rear had better traction. After the F-1's I went to PS-2 on the rear and F-1's up front for about 6 months as well.

I thought you were never supposed to mix RFT and non-RFT? I definitely agree that you should replace all tires with non RFT. I don't think I'll ever go back. Now I just have to chew up my street tires so I have an excuse to replace them
