Question Alloy Refurb in West Yorkshire

Hi guys,

Can any one recommend anywhere for a refurb of wheels? Looking for a reasonable price for powder coating etc?

Theres a powder coating place in Castleford that I've used before. Can't remember the name though. Several mates use them too so I'll find out and let you know.

Yup. 4 wheels with tyres on but after refurb tyres don't need to go back on

LSN Coatings.

http://www.lsn-coatings.co.uk

I've had them do wheels and RGV125 Bike Frame. The frame cost £80.

Wheels were about £25-£30 each but that was a few years ago.

Yeh hes quoted me 140 for the refurb. Only problem is he doesnt take tyres on/off which isnt a big issue as can get that done elsewhere.

The thing that concerned me is that would someone like LSN be as good as someone like The Wheel Specialist in Leeds? There is a huge price difference also, TWS came to 292 and LSN at 140 lol but TWS seems to have a good reputation.

What Im trying to get at is are LSN cheap in price because the quality of the work is cheap or are they just good value for money and TWS are rip off?

My mate is having his buddy club wheels done at the moment. I'll get picks when they come back.

LSN probably just strip, paint and lacquer whereas the more expensive ones will powder coat, sand blast, etc

I know of LSN coatings since I work about 5-10mins from it, The Wheel Specialist is top drawer but I have found out since when they bolt your alloys back on, they overtighten the wheelnuts just with the nutgun and do not use a torque wrench, I had my Astra in and when it came to replacing the tyres the garage tried hard to get them off and once they were off it turns out the wheelnuts were sheared.

The difference in cost is due to the fact tires need to be stripped off and back on along with balancing, my local garage charges £15 per corner.

Sorry I dont understand, do you mean The Wheel Specialist overtighten the nuts or LSN?

I wont be getting the wheels on and off a car or tyres as Ill be buying tyres after and having them fitted at a later date. I just need a set of wheels refurbed (but the original tyres taken off at the same time)

The Wheel Specialist did, sorry should have been clearer.

Use LSN if you have a spare set of wheels to use while the original ones are been refurbed. Otherwise if you can afford to lose your car for one day, send it to The Wheel Specialist.

Yeh these wheels that Im getting refurbed are not on my car at the moment, they will go on after the refurb and once I bought some Falkens to put on em!

Think I might go with LSN. I guess they are cheapest price I got because they simply do the wheels and not faff around with taking tyres on and off etc and thats what i need really.

LSN do the job right. I can't fault any of the work I've seen them do and I've seen quite a lot. I helped a friend do a Ducati 748 rebuild. Everything went to LSN and was superb. His brother (who is getting his buddy club wheels done) has just done a rebuild on an RGV125 and has had everything done at LSN.

Removing the tyres yourself isn't a difficult job. Especially as the wheels are going for a refurb.

Now to source some tyres. I'm thinking of going with Falkens

Well finally got my wheels back from LSN and have to say on the whole pretty pleased with the job. Wheels are looking nice and new again. Because they don't do any filling etc they don't remove any major dents as they simply strip and coat the wheel again so if you need or want it rebuilt in places to fill in then LSN won't do that. That's why they are very reasonably priced I guess. (140 instead of the quoted 300 ish from other places).

There some marks that I am questioning whether were on the wheels before. One of the wheels has a pretty large mark on the rim at the back. I can't seem to understand how this came about. Obviously it had to be done when the tyres were off the wheel as its impossible to kerb a wheel at the back!!

Anyway here are some pics

BEFORE

AFTER

And finally...the old wheels on the car

AND NEW WHEELS

Transforms the look of the car soooo much!!

thanks for the review,

im planning on putting the same wheels on in the summer. the ride height seems significantly/ noticeably higher from your pics,

I didnt realise that putting 18s on se suspension would make it sit that high... anyone else have experience of this?
