Thank you!
It's only been out for a month or two. This is the radio to get right now. I was gonna try the new Kenwood DNX9140 but then I heard about this one. It's a lot better than the Z1 and Z2 I had before.

When the faceplate folds down (screen faces upwards), is there a chance that the shifter would hit the screen?

Just wondering in case anyone hits the open button by accident while driving!

I'm surprised noone has asked this yet. It doesn't hit the shifter in any gear and I don't even have an SSK yet.

Is this a self powered or passive deck? Are you using any amps or after market speakers? How is the sound compared to stock?

No aftermarket amps yet but I do want to replace the amp/speakers in the future.

Yes I do. You need something like the SoundGate CANNAV to retain PDC.

I think it looks weird with that huge hump in the middle. Had BMW put the monitor on the dash in a more eye-pleasing location, I mighta gone with i-drive.
To each his own.

You can still use the stalk to change and reset everything.

Correct. I relocated my original headunit to the trunk so I still have full functionality (gong, etc).

Looks nice and clean but as some other have said, too low. I hate adding aftermarket stereo equipment to cars and honestly, the idrive works just fine. I really don't know why people complain about it so much.

Did you consider wiring you sat radio through the shark fin?

I think this is a great solution for those of us who do not have iDrive, or BMW assist.

This is quite an impressive set up!

Just be careful you don't punch the screen when throwing in to third gear.

Relocating the OEM radio to the trunk to retain CHIMES w/ an aftermarket headunit.

Here's what you need:

Metra 70-9003
(Plugs into your Dash Harness)

Metra 71-9003
(Plugs into your OEM Radio)

Instructions:

You need to run five wires from the dash to the trunk. Three of the wires are to connect pins 9, 11 and 15 on 71-9003 to pins 9, 11 and 15 on 70-9003. The two remaining wires are for a small speaker (8 Ohm) so you can hear the chimes. This speaker gets mounted in the OEM location under the driver's side dash. Pin 12 on 71-9003 gets grounded in the trunk.
