DCT swap.

Yes, I know this will probably be waaaaaay more money than it's worth, but I'm more interested in the possibility. Setting aside price how hard would it be to get a DCT unit in a 325i. Is it controlled by the DME? Does it have it's own stand-alone module? Do you need some sort of bell housing adapter? Does it even fit in the tranny tunnel?

Your problem is the engine not the trans--def better off changing that rather than the trans

Maybe it's more feasible to go for an MT swap?

6 speed swap is much easier.

Check my sig. Already have 6MT. I was just interested if it can be done to an engine that doesn't offer it as an option. Of course it "can" be done, but how easy is it (cost aside) and what would you need. What about the V10 from the M5 (S85?). Does it have the same bell housing as the M3's V8?

if anything, I'd be looking at the DCT that comes in the 335is.

well, you were mentioning the V8 in the M3 and the V10 in the M5, but I know the IS has the DCT as an option (and I believe some Z4's might as well), which sounds like it could be a better fit, since those cars deal with an N series motor.

as far as programming, I don't know how that's handled. Have you checked realoem diagrams yet? maybe there is a part number. Ok, I just checked, and it isn't obvious if there is a separate computer for the trans. But a new DCT will set you back about $10,000, so start checking out those salvage yards!
