If you have the steering control buttons for bluetooth and you press them and it talks to you listing available commands, then you have the phone prep. If you have no voice command buttons or you press them and nothing happens, then you don't have phone prep. |

I've got word from my dealer today that they can do the BT retrofit on my 09 E90 for $1600 without the TCU (I have picked one up from Ebay off a 09 328 so I should be ok there). The wiring has to be custom made for the vehicle options at BMW in Germany, it would take two weeks to get it here in the states and the labor to install it would be 8-10 hours.
Lesson to be learned: The 09 E90s do not come pre-wired with bluetooth preparation like all previous years models did. Unless you absolutely do not care about Bluetooth, do order the E90 with either the premium or the BT/Assist option. It will be much less expensive if one day you decide to retrofit an 09 E90 for BT. |

first and for most you need to have a tech package with navi. if you have that in you trunk you will have four wires , optical 54 blue pin one and antena with power. Thats for you MLUF OR so called bluetooth module with voice activated futures and some phone options. You will need that first. Then you need the bluetooth ariel that you connect under your steering wheel to connecting it to the phone button on it. It also serves a bluetooth antena. And the last not least you will need the TCU. The wire for it is near the module wires in your trunk. Then is all programing. Have to program the direction of light that will go through opitc to your TCU and the rest of the system. The bluetooth module is about $700 to $800 at the dealer. (i have one if you need for $300 plus shipping) then the ariel is about $50 at the dealer, the TCU is about $600, and then the programing. At the dealer they also ask to buy the SOS option about $600 that mounts beside your roof, but i don't think you need it.
i'm almost done with mine on 2007 328i conv. I'm just missing TCU. . Quote:

If you retrofit w/ the TCU you MUST get the roof FZD (bmw assist button) You can't do it w/o that.

I just bought an 07 E92 with nav and was curious on how much it would cost to get the bluetooth hooked up? Also, if anyone knows of a good place around LA to do this that would be AWESOME too. Thanks in advance.

I wave a 07/07 e93 with professional nav and USB connector on the armset.
So I already have the bluetooth (TCU?) in the trunk. How can I activate the bluetooth??? plug the BT antenna near the pedals, plug the mic and speaker and then??? How will the coding know that the BT is there? |

Id like to re-emphasize the necessary step of shining a light through the fiber optic cable at the TCU so you know which cable to move around when adjusting the MOST Junction box.
I took the PDF for literal and ended up having to go back and re-do everything the correct way when I noticed the SIRIUS DIY also had the cable in the 4-spot being removed. My TCU cable was in the #1 slot. Update: Had the car re-flashed at BMW of Fairfax last week and everything works as designed! Salvaged TCU: $125 Overhead OEM FZU off eBay: $107 Misc Parts from BMW of Fairfax: $100 (Save money and do NOT get the back-up antenna - part not needed) BMW of Fairfax charges a flat 2-hours of Labor for updating: $270 ==================== Total Bluetooth/Assist retrofit ~$570 Last edited by Cy3; 01-09-2010 at 09:39 PM.. |

Built in is the way to go. When my car was in the garage, calls to my cell phone would ring through to the car because the Blue Ant was still connected to my car. With the built in, everything is seamless. |

TCU
Just bought a TCU. It is well worth the price!! You get bluetooth, a gps unit and a GSM cell phone all in the TCU. I am getting the first year of BMW Assist for free with the purchase. I am enjoying it!!!!

ULF/TCU KIT & USB iPOD/iPOD KIT
I have a 2008 328i (N52N/VA33); production 04/08. I want to install the Bluetooth kit and iPod adapter, but I am a little confused as to what I need with regard to the TCU or ULF and the USB/iPod or just iPod connection kit. What are the differences in just getting the TCU vice ULF? or getting the iPod connection kit vice getting the USB/iPod connection kit. Is there a combination of the two I need, or will either one do? Currently I only have the aux input and don't care if I have USB for thumb drive access, if that's all the USB/iPod kit is about.

Yes. And to address the post before yours, there is no usb retrofit for US cars as of right now. And ULF doesnt work w/ american cars. So, you must do the TCU retrofit. here is my post on my retrofiting bluetooth and ipod: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175658

NICE... Figured i would call my dealership and ask them about how long and how much they would charge to recode ... Without hesitation he said it will take roughly 1 hour, and $130. Said at most 1.5 hours if something comes up, but hasn't in the past.
I will be ordering the parts later today... |
