E91 base stereo upgrade

Hi all, I'm new to the site and looked at lots of different options to upgrade the crappy base stereo and found a blaupunkt plug and play option, is it a good option and is that a lot better than doing the alpine upgrade as I really don't want to cut any of the cars wires.

Nice 1, thanks, that's made it so much easier to find the info I wanted, gonna have a good look through them all now and decide on the system I want, I suppose that will determine the type of harness I will need? I'm basically look for something as as good or better than the Harman Kardon system I had in my old e46 m sport.

You should at least get the Technic Harness

You should at least get the Technic Harness.
Mob17 is one of the English posters he has been doing
a lot of work lately.
I have my install posted in the Hi Fi section of the first thread.
it may be of use to you in pulling your car apart and putting stuff in.

I'll take a look at that, theres alot of stuff about technic harness's on here, does he ship to the UK or is there some one in the UK that makes them? I have the professional hu so does that mean I could get it coded to hifi and not use a processor? is mob17 doing an install at the mo?

You will have to ask him (mob17)

It looks like he has done several installs in the last 6 months and should know
the ropes of getting the stuff you need . He installs some pretty good stuff and knows the other people in the London area that are DIY ing . The minimum system that will get you up to the area of the old E46 I think would be a JL xd600/6 replacement of your under seats and front doors. With a recode you could avoid having to use a
cleansweep I think . The year of your Head Unit and car may determine if you can recode it or not is what I get. I don't have a clear idea of what the details are.
I had the Hi Fi and did have the old E46 HK top of line and like you said it was pretty big downgrade going even to the Hi Fi.
You will have to ask Technic where he ships to it seems like he does to Europe.
If you do a search for Mob17 there are about 3
pages he probably asked a lot of the same questions you have . I would read the ones that he originated and you can get an idea of what you want to do.
Oh I think he is in Northampton which is near you.

Cool, that's a big help, is coding a dealer thing or is it something I could do? Id also like to add the Usb aux in the arm rest, ive read a post on a diy for it so hopefully could have that coded with the hifi option at the same time, I'll have a chat to him and see if he will ship over here. Gonna take a look now at mob17's pages.

If you are computer literate and and a hacker

If you are computer literate and and a hacker.
You can get a coding setup for about a 100 bucks or less.
This will allow you to do diagnostics and recode the car .
You have to do due diligence in studying the information on the
coding board though.

There are probably some coders in your area.
Some of the independent BMW shops can do it to.
