Unplugging the wire apparently causes error codes. Hence the golf tee mod method. Other than that, I don't think it's damaging at all.

its a backfire

the mixture between gas and air is affected and it has to even out making more air go out and creating detonation....this can be really bad if ur running lean..

Will it still do this backfire with an aftermarket exhaust system or muffler? or is it just on the stock one?

Stock exhaust with muffler delete produces backfiring. Love it.
