Ontario Licensing Questions - need your input

Got my eyes on a particular set of plates at my local MTO. Does anyone know if it is a must to turn in my existing plates to them in order to obtain the new plates? The vehicle I want to replace the plates on now have a personalized plate that I don't want to let go of, and I don't really want to let go of the plates on my other vehicles as well.

I was told that I could keep my existing plates only if I purchase an additional plate sticker on the new plates, just wondering if it is still the case for now?

Thanks!

It should still be the same now. Back when I got personalized plates a few years back you were able to keep your old plates if you did not want credit back for the balance owing on the sticker.

That's what I have been told when I registered my personalized plates back in 2005, I regret turning in my old A plates though as they are unobtainable now. However, I have been told by a friend who went to get plates yesterday that I had to turn in a plate to get another one even though he was willing to pay for the sticker.

Guess I will try my luck tomorrow - thanks for the input!

What I did with mine is, I replaced my plates during my bday. So when I renewed my sticker I just use my new plate.
