In a Pinch, Heater Lowers Engine Temp 20C
So I have noticed my engine can get up to 100C in idle or traffic.
I was stuck in traffic again today (damn Monterey Concourse), and checked engine temp with Carly/BMWhat -- 100C, yikes, the ambient temp was only 68F. Then it occurred to me to try the old heater trick -- so I maxed out the temp on climate control to 84F and sure enough the engine temp came down to around 80C. Wow, didn't expect that much change. Anyway, good news if you start having temp problems out in the middle of nowhere. And another on BMW for giving us an idiot light instead of an engine temp guage.
