2008 e90 with Ipod connector, how to connect

Hey all.. I picked up a 2008 e90 335i with the ipod adapter. There is a USB port in the center console. I pluged my Ipod in here using the apple ipod cable and nothing happen (ok, so the ipod charged). The stereo kept saying "connect USB." Is there a special wire I need? Maybe BMW sells something fancy and over priced, but are there generics out there that would work?

I think you need use the iPod 6fl cable, not the regular apple iPod cable.

Something that is similar to this thread. I think there are generic ones.
