Winton Track Day - July 11th
There may not be many (or any) takers for this, but I'm planning to go up to Winton for a track day on July 11th if anyone is interested.
Winton hold 'Fun days' a couple of times a year. These are not serious track days. They are not timed. It is not racing. Just a cheap track day to have a bit of fun. http://www.wintonraceway.com.au/drive/fun-days I have done maybe a dozen on these days in previous cars, but haven't been to one since I bought the beemer, so am looking forward to giving it a bit of a thrash, but not looking forward to no LSD -$50 for the whole day (driver or passenger). -Rotating driver and passenger sessions. You get heaps of track time. -Need a helmet, closed shoes, full length clothing -Don't need a fire extinguisher -Don't need a Cams license -It's 2 and a bit hours drive from Melbourne; so a fair drive Your car insurance likely won't cover you should you have a bingle. Drive at your own risk. I have seen a couple of smashes at these things over the years, but only from d*ckheads showing off to their mates by trying to drift or something stupid. Drive within your limits and you'll be fine. Here is me at one of these days in my old car if you want to see what its like. Last edited by harms; 04-25-2015 at 04:31 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Are you guys really happy taking your 335s on the track? One hard climb up Arthurs Seat and my oil temp climbed alarmingly. Brakes and tyres shagged. Limp mode? I'd not go near a track in mine. Long way back to Melbourne if things go wrong. Pay an extra $100 and go to Sandown maybe? Just in case. A tow will be $700 back from Winton....

A tow is free if you've got RACV total care...
Besides, I haven't had a check engine light for like... two weeks. So, It's all good in the hood. |

Socket, wait for the 'red mist' and I guarantee you won't be doing 60.
Scott, RACV won't tow you if they figure out you've been on the track which is not that hard for them to figure out. Good luck fellas.

Just watched the vid. Love the Daihatsu spinning off at 1.05. Now that's what a Winton track day is all about!

I've only ever had a limp mode once when i first bought the car. It was the Vanos. Never had any since. But i log and fiddle regularly to keep everything in check. I always run race brake pads on the track, and have ordered some for the Beemer. That way doesn't ruin my road pads, plus road pads are hopeless anyway. Track days aren't for everyone. But whats the point of all this power if we can only go to 100kmh. |

Sometimes at lunchtime they do a few laps behind the safety car for the kids. Might be more your speed.
Bur seriously there are plenty of slow cars and beginners there. This is not a day for breaking track records. |
