DIY: Remove seat belt chime in 2006 325i sedan (e90)

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsibility for you breaking any part of your car, cluster etc. I am not responsible if you don't wear your seat belt. I am simply passing along information...

I hate seatbelt chimes. Especially when things such as my laptop bag being on the front seat set off a loud obnoxious chime.

This idea of cutting another seatbelt off, seems to be the best anyone could come up with. (UGH)
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18746

That's why a few months ago I did this to my X3:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=431804

Since that worked, I decided to try it to my friend's e90, who promised not to be pissed if we fried his cluster.

All you need is a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the cluster. Two T10 torx screws hold the cluster to the dash, and four T10 torx screws hold the cluster together.

Once you've removed the screws, gently pry the cluster apart. All you need to do is gently pry off this speaker. The seat belt light continues to work, there is just no audible sound... I have no idea what else comes out of this speaker--I just know there is no longer a seat belt chime...

Doesn't that speaker function for all the "bring bring" warnings? One thing I can think of is the low fuel warning.

Do all chimes/warning tones originate from that speaker? Seatbelt, low fuel, trunk open, service reminders etc?

i may just try this... i have a E92 so i dont know if it will be the same but it does make sence - no speaker no noise. I just want this effin thing to be quiet for once... start up, BING! service reminder, BING! brake sensor, BING BING BING! seatbelt, sooo annoying, and i agree that it does scare me sometimes when i'm going down the road and it goes off at random, like when it gets cold and BING! snow flake warning. ugh...

Rather than destroy the speaker I just covered the holes in the speaker with a good piece of duct tape. The "bing bing" is barely if at all audible. Easily restored when it comes time to sell.

Unnecessary. Just code out the seat belt reminder sound.

Call me crazy but I kinda like that sound haha. Plus it's purpose is just that to alert you. Wish my last car made a noise when I had low tire pressure or something. Although putting duct tape to muffle the sound makes more sense to me. Great idea

Thread resurrection... Is there a DIY to get the cluster out?

TIA
