Number Plates
Wondering if anyone knows if this is possible
Northern Ireland Car bought from dealer in UK still has northern irelad plate ABC 1234 is it possible to get it swapped for a English plate AA05ABC. Any ideas if this is possible and cost involved. I suppose one way is to buy a private plate but otherwise is it something dvla can do Not for me a friend is buying a car and was wondering IMO why bother as makes the car dateless but he wants to

People pay in England to get NI plates to make the car dateless but your mate seems the opposite, each to their own I guess. If he does want to swap over its free.

My Zed came from N.Ireland and had the usual format Irish plates, upon crossing the water (still the UK obviously), the DVLA insisted on registering it on the mainland and giving it a UK format plate. I put my private plate on before the UK plate was allocated so when I take my plate off a UK format plate will be allocated at that time.
Is that what you meant?? I don't recall this being an option - they were going to do it anyway.

He should sell the NI plate rather than just loose it, they are always worth a couple of hundred quid. Then on re-registering he will get the English plate.
