New to this site...
Hey gang - I just bought an '07 335i coupe in northern california. I love the car and can't wait to start adding aftermarket options. Dinan has a $2k upgrade to get me to 380 hp but it seems expensive. Is there some solid after market companies out there where I can own the software and the upload tools outright so I can go back to the stock setting if I need to?

Welcome. You can only tune your car cheap with a piggy back and make it stock whenever you want.

Yeah either Vishnu, BMS or HELIX offer great piggybacks that allow you to tune to your desired power and then return to stock: www.vishnutuning.com is the most popular and most tested and has been leading the power race and tuning direction. They are about to introduce PROcede 2.1 which is an awesome tune and their current 2.02 is excellent for 390+hp 400+tq as well with no other mods. On an otherwise stock car, this is definitely the leading tune and allows you to do everything via laptop for map uploads once you have installed their piggyback (takes 15 minutes when you get used to it but plan for 30-40 minutes on your first time through).

Maybe. The fact is that the Dinan crank numbers that exist right now are 384hp and 421tq. That is what they came up with their car and their testing. Members with the Dinan flash who have had a dyno done show that the flash really delivers impressive numbers. Reviews like Winston Wolf's are particulary useful as they contain a before and after dyno demonstrating the power gains at the wheels. I believe there are other pre/post Dinan dyno reviews as well. Those are the numbers he would really want to concentrate on anyway. But, thank you for pointing out to him the fact that those were crank numbers that he was given.
To the original poster of this thread: If you around this forum, you will find a plethora of information including reviews, dynos, and some passionate debates about the various tunes. There is probably more on here than you would ever want to know. If you spend some time reading past and present threads about the various tunes, you will start to come up with some more specific questions, and you will gain a sense of what you route you actually want to go with in choosing a tune. Most importantly, welcome to the forum! |

Anyways with just the flash, no exhaust, in CA (where the OP lives and 91 octane is the highest readily available) I believe Dinan is getting like 360 crank. But there is more to the Dinan flash then just HP, the fact that the car runs smoother, with better throttle responce, and at cooler temps is something to consider too.

Welcome!
First of all, use the search function. You will find way more information by searching than posting a whole bunch of new threads. Take a look at the stickies as well. There's a dyno tested tune thread and another one for different mods. I didn't do Dinan because that wasn't out yet and also I don't want to pay 2k just to test it out. Have fun around here.

They're both great tunes. There is enough information around, like Mr.5 said, for the OP to make his decisision. |

I have heard bad things about the 92 octane in WA... everyone seems to dyno low in your state =\ Don't get me wrong, I love it there, my little bro just graduated WWU in Bellingham, we celebrated with tequila and wakeboarding yesterday =) Water was a little cold though =\
