Ouch - a bit too hot, and looks like he was still hard on the brakes mid turn after unloading the car over the brow of the hill... no wonder he lost the back end. Admirable attempt at initial correction though, although didn't prevent his going into the armco. Glad the bloke's ok though - have seen many crashes there before (I've almost lost it through that corner too because the car was still settling after the hill).
Would've cost him probably another 2000 Euros on top of the damage to the car itself, just for track closure time and recovery...

Does the embeded ones work or you guys clicked the old style link?
Regarding the crash, if only he had put his foot down he may have kept it!

Carl, the corner is a bit sharper in real life than it looks, if he`d kept his toe down I honestly think he would`ve understeered off into the barrier.
You need to try and get most of the braking done before the jump but its tempting to let the car go to "take off" |

i know what your saying mike, but as the tail snapped out he could have applied progressive throttle to turn it into a drift or to spin the car totally maybe more than once round to shave off speed and not hit the barrier!

No, I doubt that would have helped too much Carl, because the main problem with that corner is that the car is unloaded after the hump in the road - if you don't let the car settle and you're braking at the same time as going through the corner (as that guy was doing) the back end unloads completely and the car is inherently unstable all the way through the corner. As MikeM says above, I've seen cars way too hot through there and lose it much worse than that GT3... (I was almost one of those people!) Braking needs to be pretty much done and sorted before the bump - the car goes over, settles and you turn in, no brakes, then nail the throttle at the apex and onwards.. fastest way through there (and safest too)

What you also can`t see from the video is that the long Right hand bend is actually an S bend that goes imediately Left just out of camera. You need to shave lots of speed before the jump and at the most lightly touch the brakes after the jump.
Trailbraking into that corner is for the very brave "showboaters" who like going sideways or for the people that don`t decide what they`re going to do `till its too late. |
