Does this clutch look ok?
Took an Audi A5 1.8tfsi into the dealers recently after I thought the clutch didn't feel right.
Car has covered 20K and is less than 3 years old. I was told by the technician that if it was the flywheel then it would probably be covered and if it was the clutch it wouldn't. Checked my warranty and it says clutch friction materials aren't covered but no mention of the flywheel. Got a call saying it was wear and tear and it would cost £2000 to fix. I went to the dealer and insisted that I see the parts affected and was shown the clutch plate, pressure plate and flywheel. You can see heat marks on the pressure plate and the same heat marks on the flywheel, but to me the clutch plate looks ok. So they have said that it's down to bad driving habits, which I would have thought would show on the clutch plate?? To me it looks worn evenly. I would like to know whether I should fight for a replacement under warranty or does it look like bad driving? I have been in touch with Audi customer service and they just keep repeating the mantra 'wear and tear' back to me. Thanks. |

looks like you're slipping the clutch too much, friction material isn't too worn but you've got hotspots all over the flywheel
Sorry to say, but I'd agree with the dealer :/ |

I bought the car with 14K on it last September and as I haven't driven a manual car for about 7 years I wasn't sure what the clutch should feel like. |

With dual mass flywheels and delay valves, clutches now feel NOTHING like they used to
They're meant for people with no feel to just drop and go. By driving like you used to, you're letting it slip far too much. You have to basically just drop the clutch once you feel it engaging and let the car do the rest, instead of manually trying to engage smoothly like we used to. |
