Very small vibrations in steering wheel
Hello!
I bought a set of new wheels with some aggressive ET for my e92 335i 18x8 ET15 front 225 40 18x9 ET20 rear 255 35 Conti sport contact 5 tyres (used, had them from last year). I had VMR 19x8.5\9.5 235\275 ET around 35 before. (Need 18" for this summer as am going on roadtrip in europe for 2 months and prefer comfort before looks). I noticed small vibrations right away after wheel swap at 40mph+, I did balance it twice in my local tyres\wheels garage. I thought that problem was in my plastic hub rings as they were slightly damaged (wheels is 74.1), so I bought a new aluminium ones, and that made a big difference, steering wheel shakes less (most shacking seems to come at 35-55 mph now, twice as less then it was before, but it still there). My passangers seems to notice very small vibrations at 70mph+ in floor as well. (might be just bad road) What cat it be? Bouth wheels and tyres looks normal. |

Very slight in this case as we couldn't see anything when we did balance my wheels.
Vibrations seems to not be there all the times, sometimes its nearly noticeble or even perfect for few minutes, but the shaking always comes back(again, very slight but annoying). Very wierd, I wounder if it can be becouse of low ET? Maybe need alighment? |

I will do wheel balance one more time just to be sure, but I dont think that it will help.
Now something wierd did happen, I drove my car 30mph on straight road and did some hard steering wheel pulls(turned left and right quick), I did expirience little wouble while placing steering wheel in straight position. After entering 45mph road I did not feel any vibrations at all, this might be a sighn for something? |

check the wheel balance again, roadforce it, check to see if the tires are chopped, and make sure you have the correct hub rings and make sure the wheels are torqued properly. if none of that solves the issue, check the upper control arms, this caused my wheel to vibrate at 50 or so mph.

So i've swaped the wheels from my 18x8 et15 front, 18x9 et20 rear to 18x8 et44 front 18x9 et24 rear.
There is still some slight vibrations, much less then with old wheels tho and only at 35-45 mph, if I go above that, steering feels nearly perfect (feels wierd when changing lanes on highway). I think that steering wheel shacke and high speed brake vibrations comming from the same source, and it's most likely my front rotor as they dont look so good. I will order new ones and change them, will keep you updatet. |
