yes, should be, there must be high rate of insurance for race cars

Unless that individual purchased insurance specifically for the race, that likely wasn't covered. Virtually every policy for passenger vehicles has an exclusion related to race tracks. My guess is the insurance company would consider the "Pike's Peak" run a "race track" for the purposes of their policy given it was being used for an organized competition.

That being said, that car looks like it was a dedicated track car. Probably no insurance on it anyway.

No such thing for race cars!

If you go to a race track as a private, you are most certain lose you're insurance if something happens...
