Dinan Software upgrade vs PPK1 upgrade???

So my question is what are the big differences in the Dinan Software upgrade vs the BMW software upgrade. I know that the Dinan is 2000.00 cost for the service and the BMW is @ 1000.00. What are the biggest gains from one another? I think Dinan is 355 Hp and 400 tq. Not sure what the BMW is? Just want to hear from people that have experience with these...Thanks.

By the way I have a 2011 BMW 335i with the N55...

PPK is 320 hp 332 lb torque (auto)

Although these numbers may be underrated

When you tune you risk warranty
PPK does not do that

Also tuning requires greater maintenance

PPK forces dealer to change spark plugs at 45k
Still under warranty

Well worth $1000

You get power and later spark plugs

I had PPK, it is a nice upgrade in power but still lacks what the car can really deliver. I installed Jb4 with DP's and its night and day.

I am a 40 year old business owner. Not looking to be racing the streets. Just want to get the most out of the 335i / N55. Plus not have warranty issues.

Just stopped by dealer. 750.00 for the PPK1 software upgrade plus 160.00 for a labor charge. They said the car would need to be there from 2-8 hours to do the install. Said reason was I case there was other updates to the BMW software other than the PPK1. Paper work says you get 20hp and 32tq. So that would give it 320hp and 332tq. Is it really that noticeable from a stock 335i? I do have the sport package. Just wondering before I drop 1k and not have my ride for the day. Thanks

I very definitely noticed the difference in power with my stage 2 PPK upgrade. Also, it adds a nice mix of pops and burbles to the exhaust during engine overruns, and the exhaust note is deeper and more aggressive when the gas pedal is dropped.

When playing around with the iPhone app PocketDyno+, I managed a 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. That was without brake-revving and with a bit of wheelspin off the line on my crappy 17" rfts... and I weigh 250lbs. Tank was 3/4 full too.
I think if I did some serious runs, I could drop down to 4.6, maybe.

+1

I managed 4.7 with mine too on pocketdyno. Just needed a better launch and maybe the ppk could get 4.6. Over half a tank too and I'm 210. 18" run flats too.
Over all good flash tune for keeping warranty. Waiting for Cobb in the future. Far future at their pace!!

I'm very happy with my Dinan Stage Two tune. If you shop around the $2K price is far from firm...

I dropped a full 1/2 sec off my 1/4 mile drag times, now 13.2 @ 104MPH. I like the fact some BMW dealers support the Dinan product and the matching warranty is piece of mind. This was a noticable boost in power from stock, now 355 HP/401 lb.- ft

Just waiting for a full Stage Three to come out for the N55.

I have had the Dinan Stage II since it came out earlier this year. It is a great tune for most of us in that it doesn't put undo stress on the engine nor excessive wear on parts. Dinan could certainly put more bang in their tune but it would come with a real cost in terms of higher maintenance.

I don't seem to have any trouble at the track either. Keeping in mind a good driver makes up for allot. If I wanted straight line speed, I wouldn't be driving a BMW. I would be dring my other German car. Oh wait, I do drive my other one.

I have driven both the PPK1, The Dinan Stage II and the JB4 tuned 335i's. All have some great features. It just depends on the driver's comfort, preference and perception.

Now save some money for a real driving school and watch your times really drop!
