Due to the problems I'm having from the TC actuator I can hear my front drive engaging at 10mph.After it is engaged it stays allwheel drive until I cut the car off and let it power down for at least 30 seconds.if I just cut the car off and restart its still engaged.Has to power down to disengage .Anyone hear of this??

Car is never fully rwd its 20-80 or so..and how you hear it, never heard that one before

The TC actuator worm gear is missing teeth .When it engages the front wheel drive it makes a popping sound.It engages at 10mph and I hear it sometimes we learn the most about how something on our cars work WHEN SHIT BREAKS would love to find out if the car is meant to engage front at 10mph

Trust me I've read the info stating that under normal operation the car is 60 rear 40 front.Have not seen anything stating what it is from the initial start of the motor and beginning take off .

BMW literature indicates at low speeds TC is open. Search google on xdrive.

After it engages the first time at 10mph it stays engaged at all speeds as far as I can tell until the car powers down and then i hear the front engaging again at 10 mph.its the initial front engaging that I am talking about.Cant find anything on that but I will continue to look

Not true, or at least I have read it goes open under a certain speed in parking lots for example. It is not just speed dependent either, steering angle is part of it: tight turns low speed etc. I am pretty sure it is always disengaged at a stop regardless. Let us know what you find out for sure this is interesting.

There is a difference between an open transfer-case and a locked one, but in either case both shafts are engaged. An open diff just allows one set of wheels to turn at a different speed, locked does not. A locked t-case is not good for parking, but it assists traction when necessary
