It took me over 2 hours to drive my 10 minute commute (4 miles). My coworker left at 4:30 from Herndon, VA to go home to Arlington, VA, and is still on the road at midnight. Ridiculous. The streets were parking lots, even the highways.

There was a red E92 M3 parked in the middle of the road on my way home when there was only an inch or so on the ground lol...poor guy.

It's hilarious how they salted and treated the streets weeks ago and we only got a few flurries, yet this week they didn't do a damn thing to the roads. This was a very wet snow that turned in to lots of ice, probably the reason for the horrible motoring conditions.

you don't pass by lake newport do you
that might have been me
it was actually 3 inches and i had to accelerate earlier to clear some bushes
so when i turned i actually drove up where the plough had pushed the snow
so i was sitting on a small hill of snow
and that's with winter tires!

bigger question is
why was nothing done to clear the roads
i drove from mclean to dc to reston
not single plough till i got to reston
and the ones i saw in reston had their plough up
WTF??

Saw an abandoned E93 M3 on 7100. Wonder if he was still on summers.

Luckily I left work before all the snow happened. This morning though on my way to work (Thank God for SUVS), there were a ton of cars just sitting in the middle of the road or on the shoulder along the toll road. Also the ramp leading to 66 into DC had a ton of cars just parked in the middle of the road!!! Definitely saw quite a few E90 335i's and M3's along the side of the road this morning.

Yeah, it was a real mess out there. Since the precipitation started as rain that prevented the road crews from pre-treating the streets - which made it so much worse. My coworker left at 4:30 and got home at 1 am. What a debacle.

it really was bad, people are freaking RETARDED in the snow around here.

their technique:

1) maintain no mementun when approaching a hill
2) slamming on brakes at the top of a hill on a decent
3) clogging up a 3 lane highway w one car weaving back and forth
4) hugging the wheel in a wild wide eyed stare
5) going on unplowed areas with a toyota camry....it'll make it right? NO YOU IDIOT
6) giving me a bad look because i'm trying to get around their dumb asses in a legit 4x4 with proper tires. I'm sorry your scared of the snow but get the hell out of my way.
7) spinning tires at the bottom of a hill, not turning the wheel at all to try and get traction and just leaving it there. I asked one guy why he didnt pull off to the side instead of leaving it in the one plowed lane...."I didnt think of that". Made him back up 2 feet, turn the wheel to right, then hit the pedal on the right, then the pedal on the left, then get out. Hey look your on the shoulder now!

Didnt you guys know? As soon as the first flurry hits the ground in the DMV area, people go flying into highway barriers, tanker trucks flip over and explode, and county snow removal usually takes forever. Oh and I leave my 335i in the garage and take the truck to work.

Good thing I didn't go to work yesterday. I was in a similar situation a couple of years back and was stuck for 5 hours. This is regardless of which car I drive so I just stayed home yesterday.

A friend of mine was leaving DC at 4:45 and didn't make it home to Ballston until 10:30. He's got a 330i with brand new all seasons and got stuck at the bottom of a hill on the GW parkway with a bunch of other people. Luckily some dude in a Jeep was there to pull everyone up the hill.

Exactly. I had no issues driving yesterday. The only thing that makes it tough is trying to avoid all the unprepared idiots who thought they could brave the snow and end up freaking the hell out when they can barely move. Sorry, but I'm not gonna go 10mph on a highway behind a bunch of scared drivers when I can drop it in 4wd and do 40 mph. Call me reckless all you want, but 35" tires and lockers in both axles makes my Jeep more than capable in 2-3" of snow.

I can't always blame the people though. I partially blame businesses that don't let their employees go home early when its obvious that staying at work is going to endanger them on the drive home later. I promise you that work will be there the next day when the roads are clear and safe. Our base didn't let us go early and if I was driving the BMW, there's no way I would have made it home.
