Should I change the oil after first 1200 miles?
I'm about to hit 1200 miles on my 335is, and have been breaking it in per the manual. The onboard computer and the dealer say there is no reason to change the oil until the computer decides its ready -- at something like 15k miles. It sounds crazy to me to drive a twin turbo car for 15k miles on its initial break in oil, since it's bound to be full of metals. So, should I just have BMW change it despite their "recommendation" otherwise?

Yes, you have to pay if you ask for a change before the computer says it's ready. Frankly, I fear their infrequent servicing schedule is designed to allow them to offer "free maintenance" as cheaply as possible...

Did you buy it or lease it? Peace of mind may be best to get it changed around the 7k mark if you plan on keeping it. Either way take good care of it. The oil change is only $100 bucks.

I changed mine at 1000 miles, plan to change it again at about 7,500, and then get the dealer freebie at 15,000, etc. etc... Do it yourself, it easy and you can get a kit from Tischer with OEM oil, filter and gaskets shipped to your door for approx $65.

This is true. I stopped by BMW Den Haag this afternoon. My 10 month old 2011 328i's oil changes costs 230 Euros (and OCI is 3 years or 30K KM). I still do mine every 8K miles...
