1) you plug into the AUX jack under the armrest with a stereo male 2 male plug.(although there is other options)
2)You can put all of your CD's on your Ipod..so no 3) So long as the Bit rate is set high like 192 kbps which is about 82 mB per CD sound quality will be great 4)You can purchase an adapter that plugs into a cig lighter |

what you mean by setting bit rate?
so the ipod can be just under the arm rest and no one can see it?> and do i have to control everything by hand to change songs on the ipod or there is a better way to do it?

The bit rate is when you convert .wav to .mp3 or .mp4 in Ipods case. It's kinda like sheets the more thread count the better.
Yes, it can be hidden. I have a creative 40gig zen which is windows based not Mac.... IMO it's better..I just use Windows media Player to add them to the MP3 player. I have to change them by hand through the MP3 player. I have an X3 and the have a hook up OEM that you can change songs through the steering wheel(not sure about the e90) |

I wire that connects to the radio that communicates with the Ipod through the steering wheel.

I have a regular 20 gig ipod for my E90 stock system. I just bought a new male to male connector for the aux input. With the old connector and new connector, I still get a hissing background noise. I turn down the aux gain on the deck to 1 and set the treble to zero. I also turn on the treble reducer on my ipod EQ setting. Do anyone of you have experience with this hissing?

Thanks theclay,
Could I just get the docking port cable to minijack and not get the charger? Does the ipod need to be powered or grounded to prevent the hissing? Thanks in advance. |

Seriously . . . there are a lot of posts on this.
Here's the breakdown. Get either the belkin or the monster car charger. Both have the minijack output. Plug the charger into your car and the other end into the iPod. Plug a male to male line from the minijack output on the charger to the aux input of your 3 series. The reason for this is to allow you to put the line out feed from the iPod into the aux input of the car. This line out feed provides a non-amplified data stream. Therefore this will allow you a single volume control (the car's) to control how loud it is. If you plug the regular headphone jack on the iPod into the aux input of the 3 series, you have to optimize the volume on the iPod and then adjust the volume on the 3 series to get a non-distorted sound. But this setup will work. Although the aux input is nice and a welcome additive, there is no iPod specific controller included or available for the 2006 3 series. In other words, you have to control the iPod through the iPod. You canNOT control it through the head unit or the steering wheel. BMW may in the future release this, but we'll see. The benefit of this current setup is that you can use any MP3 player or sound source with your car. Although I'm a big Apple fan, choice is important too, and some people like their players and should be able to use them with their cars. Sound will be fine. CDs should sound the same in the car as the iPod or any other MP3 player. Remember a car is actually the worst type of location to listen to music (all because of the wind noise and other distractions). So the minor differences between CD quality and MP3 are not noticable in the car. P.S. The belkin model has a volume control on it and can act as a very low power amp. The negative of this is that since the power plug is in close proximity to the miniplug you may get a hissing sound. therefore you'll need a grounding terminal. I would recommend the Monster kit instead. But that's just my 2 cents . . . |
