I got pulled over last night for having Illegal number plate
I was driving home last night from Northampton and I get off on the m6 near my house and I get pulled over by the motorway police.
It was very comfy in the back of the XF lol. The officer were nice. He said my number plate doesn't read what it should. I think his system on the car was playing up because it did show my number plate on the anpr and i told him that, he said you're right but still gives me a fine Before he pulled me over he drove next to me and then went behind me. I drove pass loads of them anpr police cars and they haven't never said anything about my plate. By the way I have uk pressed plates. The dude I bought them off said they are 100% legal I have had the plates for a year I think. So does any one know if the plates are legal? I had uk fonts, correct spacing, gb logo. Thanks

Pressed plates are legal, as long as they have the correct reflective material, correct spacing, font and character size.
A fully legal plate should have BS AU154 (or something similar) on it. NEW plates (even if they are an "old" number) should have the maker's name and postcode on them too. Without the BS number, they are technically illegal, but sometimes this is put in very small text, so not really visible from a moving car. Sounds a bit harsh to me. Do you have any concerns about the legality of the plates? I used to get pulled with my previous plate for being wrongly spaced (it was!) so I ended up spacing it legally. I was never fined or given a ticket for it. I used to keep a legal set in the boot, just in case. I never played dumb and said that I didn't know they were illegal. They were eventually sold with the car. I now have another private plate. And yes, it is illegally spaced, although not as radically as before. I never learn!! Mike |

Aww cheers dude you're legend.
I don't any more you made it very clear. Well am going to speak the dude who sold them to me to write a letter or give me proof that they are legal and am going to go down and speak to the police at the station. See what they say about the plates. Thanks for you're reply

thats happened to me twice - mainly because the rear number plate has no spacing, i'll put my hand upto it being illegal though. What i didn't realise is that if you have a standard govt issued registration with no spacing (as a lot of them have) then it's fine.
But pay the govt lots of money for a registration then suddenly theres a problem. Also i've been stopped for other things in the past and the reg has been completely ignored. One of those 'officers discretion' things!!

Making me worried now. I have pressed plates with correct spacing and post code of the maker. But after reading your post and the one posted by Shortie, it appears pressed plates are illegal

Shouldn't be any points. Numberplate offences are non-endorsable so fine only.
Worst outcome is you can be reported to the dvla, second reported offence and they can withdraw your plate and give you an age related one. That's more common for those trying to make it look like something. Lol

The police don't seem to bother too much unless it is really bad.

Some police forces do seem to have a problem with pressed plates, but I had pressed plates from dubmeister on my old mk5 Gti and I never had any problems. They came with the BS markings and I was assured they were legal. I haven't bothered with pressed plates on my BMW
Ps sorry if I shouldn't have mentioned where I got the pressed plates from, please remove if necessary, or if someone says I shouldn't have mentioned them , I'll remove now |

I got stop by the Staffordshire police in Birmingham lol. It's alright mate I was going to get mines from there too. I took mines off. Have look at this link by shortie, even if the plate has bs your still not meant to have them Originally Posted by shortie Have a read here. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=205714

Its down to the copper who pulls you.
I got pulled 6 months back in the porsche with NO front plate, he didnt even mention it, just gave me a section 59 for undertaking!! Bad luck to get done for pressed plates, remember the days when people went about with ITALIC plates, now they were hard to read! |
