Wastegate problems?

***update***
Got a call from the stealership and it seems like they may need to put in a new turbo. Ill keep you guys up to date.

Well for the past few weeks I've been driving around with a half engine light. Went on over to BMW and had one of my friends take a look at it. The code was indicating that there was a lack of boost.

So last night my buddy and I pretty much stripped my car from the charge pipe, to the IC, intake, downpipe, etc...

When we took off the downpipe we noticed that the wastegate was open. Does anyone know if the WG is suppose to be open or closed when the car is off? My buddy believes that the WG may be stuck open.

With that said I'm taking my car in today and hopefully get it fixed.

Shockin, do you know exactly what the fault # was you were getting? Also were there any VANOS faults? VANOS faults will cause boost faults as well.

Also check the 2 vacuum lines going to the intake manifold on the passenger side. They are right above the boost control solenoid where you would hook your Procede to. The rubber vacuum lines tend to pinch and will cause lack of boost faults.

I don't recall the codes. But when they hooked it up it said it was a low boost fault. I do however recall getting a code for the throttle body.

They haven't, they sent the dme readings to "puma" to get the codes.

Good find, we have seen a bunch of those fail on N54/N55s

Also have been starting to see leaks on the inlet pipe going to the turbocharger. The pipe that comes down along the passenger side of the motor, and connects with the 1 bolt and rubber o ring type gasket, (where the Injen Intake connects) has been causing Mass air and Throttle valve faults when they leak.

bmw really cheap'd out on some important areas of the N55.
cheap plastic pipe'n fail.
wouldn't the hot pipe be included in warranty?

it would make sense performance wise, if u upgraded to
a fmic, to chage this plastic pipe with ss straight pipe.
It'll be a bitch to get to - prob'ly have to go through wheel well
but worth it.

Ernie find someone with a laptop instead of ur refrigerator to
datalog. Check out what the codes are after limp mode.
i'm bout to post up what i'm going through with my overboost'n issue.

troubleshoot'n sucks meng..

I posted my codes in another thread. According to those it was a throttle body issue. But bmw found no such case. I'll recheck the codes and see what it says.
