From what i have been reading it doesnt seem like replacing the 2 sensors i have been waiting for will work, should i suggest anything to the dealer or is it best to contact BMW direct through e-mail. I have tried ringing BMW customer service to be told, if you have the car booked in for inspection we are unable to do anything unless the light turns to red and we can then recover your car arrange for a replacement vehicle and take your car to your local dealer. I dont know about anybody else but i dont want to be travaling long distance waiting for the red light to apear,

Biker, welcome! Shame this has brought you to the forum. You don't have to wait for the red engine light. I only had the yellow light but, as I had to drive from Scotland to London, I put the ball in BMW's court (spoke to a BMW Tech via BMW UK) and asked whether this was advisable given that the yellow light means "Visit dealer as soon as possible". They said no, don't do the journey and recovered the car, as it was inadvisable to do such a long journey with the warning light on. If in doubt, get BMW to take the risk by posing the $64000 question of "what should I do?" And record the operator's name and date and time of call.

I'll be f****d if I'm going to give BMW the chance to blame a catastrophic failure on a new £28K motor on me.

Welcome jamjon too!

Good luck

Ding to what Bumps said ^^. Orange light, get hold of assistance and ask for someone to inspect car and advise whether safe to drive or not...simple as that...

Having read the latest contributions I'm feeling much the same as others here....I have so far been considerably inconvenienced, had the vehicle in for work on 3 occassions (not counting assistance call outs as well), and still it seems that its not right...It really is laughable for a brand new £32k vehicle and it feels like BMW are taking us all for mugs....

Returning to the original purpose of this thread, while I realise E92fan's work on this is/was entirely voluntary so don't want to pressurise.....however, can you advise whether there is any dialogue with BMW on our behalf, or not??

I have read of various individuals receiving compensation (i've had nothing) and there are others being advised about "rejection" possibilities.....it would be good if we could have some kind of definitive advice since its pretty clear that the faults being experienced are common to all....

Had the service man come and check the car out, he has replaced the Exahust cam sensor. This seems to have worked so far, ill let you guys know how i get on. It seems a pity that my local dealer didnt pick this up 4 months ago, iam sure BMW will be happy with all this warrenty work they have to pay for.

Thanks for the help

It's really concerning me now how many people are having problems with this car, and most of the answers seem to be different

Hi biker212
seems like you had the same problem as me (exhaust cam sensor). Dont know why your local dealer didnt pick this up as mine came up as faulty within a few minutes of the BMW Assist technician plugging in the OBD reader.

Still, its good to hear you are good to go. Should have no problem getting that 21mpg up to 30+

enjoy ....... til next time

Hey Biker,

HJ in Southport have just had 3 weeks investigating mine, so they should be fully versed in how to sort in by now!! Hopefully it is fixed, I'm back in mine now after a replacement alloy and new tire, and I have to agree the power is certainly a lot more switched on.

Sorry to hear that you are still having issues Chrisbin!! Will be testing mine over the weekend, and then I'm away for 2 weeks so I look forward to catching up and seeing if things are working.

Well mine is ready to collect. It needs to go back in next week to have a 'knock' sensor fitted, but is fine to drive now.

Not sure if they have put v29 software on it.

Like a bloomin yo-yo this car and the dealer!! - glad my boss is my father and isn't too fussed about dropping me there and back all the time!!

I got an email today from BMW corporate management.

They have tested the update at the stealers for some bizarre reason. Sounds like the stealer doesn't know how to load it WTF.

So just need to book mine in and see what happens.

Another sorry tale

Just dropped an E-MAil with my experiences

Steering problem and two seperate injector failures in 9 months. Dealer still denies there is a known injector problem, and it still stutters under 2K. Shame cos I love the car

I think somone explicitly confirmed this, but can't recall who.

By the way, does the problem affect the (older, pre-ED) 318i? If not, why not? Isn't it the same engine, tuned down? If it doesn't then maybe it is a software issue?
I am now having a problem with my 'new\ ie ED-engined, 318i:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130357

So, 3 questions:

1. Did nobody ever have the 320i problem in their 318i?

2. Since the ED engine is 'new', and (I believe) features a new injector system, should we not be able to say - with some degree of confidence - that the ED cars will not have this problem?

3. Is a shaking gear stick a symptom of the problem? Do any of you guys have a shaking gear stick?

In answer to your question 3 my gearstick does shake in my 320 but it did previously in my e46 and does in my 318D hire car that I've been given until mine is fixed

Thumbs down

Has anyone actually had their 320 cured yet???

My car is an 07 plate BMW 320i M Sport Convertible. 7000 miles on the clock and I purchased it in January.

So far, mine has been in to the dealer 6 times. In addition to the manufacturers recall for the airbags, its had various sensors, plugs, things stuck up its exhaust, numerous software updates, new control units and yet I still get the power loss at 1500rpm and also 1900rpm. Oh and now its got an exhaust rattle!!! (the technician said its a raspy exhaust!!! Funny that, cos it didnt have a raspy exhaust when I bought it and now it does!)

Anyway, i've been in touch with BMW customer services and also BMW financial services as I wish to reject the vehicle. I have totally lost confidence in the car as I have been given the car back that many times with people telling me its fixed and yet I drive 500yards up the road and it starts playing up again.

Financial Services started a 'PUMA' case to attempt to find out what had caused the problems.

Friday of last week, the car was fitted with new spark plugs. Now I must admit this really improved the problem but the car was still far from right and still had the occasional loss of power. I immediately took the car back and took the Master Technician out in the car to show him. He admitted that he felt a power loss on more than one occasion.

On monday BMW financial services explained to me that a gentleman would be out to test the vehicle on wednesday and if he confirmed there was a problem, BMW would look to put me into a like for like vehicle which was brand new. He also stated, if the gentleman could not confirm that he felt there was a significant problem, BMW UK would not be able to support me in helping me out of the vehicle.

***CAN YOU SEE WHAT IS COMING YET!!!!!!***

Today, apparently the "TOP" man in the country who deals with this type of thing, (Lloyd something or other) was in Coventry and test drove my vehicle. Now, despite the Technician at the dealership testing my car on friday and us both feeling the judder a couple of times, this Lloyd chap has decided that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle at all. ?????????

The dealer has told me that on this basis BMW uk will not support any sort of Vehicle exchange or cancellation of contract.

One of the Servicing managers at the dealers said to me, and i quote "well its 20 times better than it was"!!! Well 20 times better than broken then!!!???? Therefore its still not fixed! Cos if it was fixed then surely he would have said it is fixed NOT it is 20 times better than it was!

Whilst I cannot knock the dealership as they have been most helpful and even now they are doing there best to help me out at dealership level, BMW UK are giving me the run around. This situation has gone on since January.

I plan to take this a lot further and get the vehicle checked out independantly to prove I am not just losing my marbles. Can anyone advise where I could do this? Or if anyone has any information that may add to my case I would be really appreciative.

hi James....sorry to hear ur tales of woe.......but im afraid its a bit of "welcome aboard"!!
..if u read back in this thread ul get the picture from all the 320 drivers of similar issues....and after 6 months of it u get just a little p***ed off with it all!!

...BMW basically dont know how to fix it!!....it looks like they will try replacing all the bits uv mentioned and the software upgrades etc...but we are still waiting for the latest v29..as theyve been hanging their cap on that solving it when clearly its a combination of them all ...well thats my theory!!

..as far as replacing the car...i think theyve pulled a fast one on u there!...id be tempted to put all ur points in writing and get BMW CS to replay in writing stating that the car is fixed!....then get it test driven again and prove it not to be!..maybe someone can advise using an independant ( say AA)...at the moment many of us do have BMW admitting there's is a prob but they are def not talking about replacing the cars..just of fixing....or not!!!!

...as for the mpg....ur doing better than me..im on 26 ish!!

..no doubt speak to you soon......
