Buying a 2nd hand jb3
Is there any issues with buying a 2nd hand one?
If not what should I look out for? I see some people refering to the USB lead as a must have, but it's not pictured on the official website. Is it part of the kit or an optional purchase? Is the USB connection standard or have there own connection on the other side? What is the market value for a 2nd hand one? Thanks. |

It'll be fine. These boxes are very durable.
You would want the USB cable for datalogging and installing firmware updates on the box. Definitely a must-have in my opinion.

I misread the title, thought it said "Buying a 2nd hand job."

Me too - caught my eye straight away! OP - you shold buy the USB to serial (9 pin D) lead as without it you can't change all the settings available to you. You run the usb lead into the passenger compartment then plug it in to your laptop to change settings. It is specific to the JB3, you cant just use any old USB - serial converter. There's loads of fiddle factor settings to fine tune it if you wish.
Its fine to use it out of the box and change maps via the pedal if you want, especially if you're not changing any other engine parts. It also depends what firmware the one you buy has on it. You'll want to update it to the 4th July 2010 latest to get the best performance, bug fixes and latest setting options. Have a read! http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8755 The interface software, firmware etc are all free of charge. But you'll need to buy the lead. Try Neil at juicebox tuning in the UK http://www.juiceduptuning.co.uk/shop...oduct.asp?ID=7 Last edited by doughboy; 01-17-2011 at 06:31 AM.. |

JB4 is out now also which has a better way of interfacing with the car, can change maps on the fly using volume keys etc, clear error codes etc etc. |
