Logic 7 stays, because of the much higher cost of the new system

Should be a option, just like it is on the M3 in most countries

So there will be a total of four different speakers configurations in the E90? 6, 10, 13 and 16 speakers?

Logic7 has 420 watts? This has almost double the watts?

More watts = more thump (bass) correct?

16 speakers? That is just getting silly, why not give us a simple/quality aftermarket setup. Front components, mid-rears, and a sub. > 35 billion speakers everywhere.

Watts aren't just about thump, generally more wattage provides louder/clearer sound. That being said, factory ratings are nearly worthless.

I'm with alpine... the new system sounds absolutely fantastic! I delivered an m6 yesterday with the upgraded system and popped in my BMW audiophile disc and it was amazing... I'm expecting my first 5 with the upgraded audio in 2 weeks or so too... should be nice!

Does the new sound sys on E92 still have subs under the seats?
Did they just put more powerfull subs and speakers or only speaker/amp upgrade?

If all the speakers are the same, then they are probably just upgrading amps..maybe they can upgrade our existing logic 7...How can we find out??

I'm wondering the same thing. I don't see them adding more speakers. Also, if they're upgrading the amps that much, don't you think they'd need to adjust the alternator?

Look at post #1. E90Fleet said 16 speakers.

I have read the BMW Individual Audio system uses Eton German made drivers...........I don't know if they are on the level of SEAS or Vifa, but Eton supply drivers (speakers) for DIY and other speaker companies. The amp is made by a OEM company called Lear, and of course it uses DIRAC which on the face of it sound like they vary the arrival time of the speaker reaching the listener's ears. Dynaudio in their VW and Volvo setups do the same thing with DSP.......I don't know who supplies the headunits......is HK still using Becker?

I find it interesting the BMW went this route instead of a branded system. With Lexus using a more expensive HK system (Mark Levinson...same company),Audi using B&O(well.....visteon makes the drivers),and VW and Volvo teaming up with Dynaudio, I guess BMW was forced to act. Naming it BMW Individual also seperates BMW from MB which uses the same OEM (HK) for their audio.

For more info......

Seems like the Hexacone is like a Kelvar like material.

BMW showcased the system at the Munich High End audio show.

Also, this is a nice website for BMW fans.

First off, the wattage rating for any and all OEM systems is a marketing number, not an empirically derived number like with a home amp (which is FTC regulated in its claims).

Second of all, having heard Logic 7 systems, I am clear on why BMW would want something to sound better. I've heard Logic 7 in the 5 series and in the 3, and BMW is far from competing with the mid-fi offerings from other makers.

I suspect that they are hearing about the publicity surrounding the Mark Levinson systems in Lexi.

Funny thing is, Logic 7, ML, HK, Infinity, and JBL are all owned trademarks of Harman International, which reorganized years ago to put all OEM projects in the same group, and give licensing of the different brands to another group.

I'm certain that they are playing DSP games. But no OEM is going to do driver's side optimization for time correction, so what are they really going to do with it? It would be smart to sense occupants seat belt sensors and know whether you could optimize for the driver, but I doubt they're doing it.

Double power equates to approx. a 3db increase in SPL.

Given the same speaker sensitivity.
If there are more speakers, then there may be more channels, and that may mean that there is no more SPL per driver.

However, double your cone area in a given freq band, and you also get 3dB

It's funny how I've done a 50wrmsx4 system in an E90 which will play pretty darned loud - louder than I need - with 5 speaker drivers and 200w total RMS.

well who knows if this 825 watts peak or RMS...

avincar really is correct when he says wattage is all marketing, pardon me for getting a little too excited. Ever since high end car manufacturers introduced fiber optic systems (thus rendering aftermarket solutions useless) I have been a bit worried about my car audio experience. Now that OEM systems are giving similar specs for cheaper, I could not be more happy.

the beauty of the lexus ML in the Lexus IS system is that it is 300 watts RMS (which would in effect equal more than 800 watts peak). In the IS, we are looking at one inverted 8" driver to give us our bass, while the BMW relies on 2. Most wattage in any system will come from the sub, so it willo be interesting to break down the actual watts per channel as opposed to such an average.

Even if it is only adding more speakers and larger amp to the Logic 7, I am happy BMW is trying to make some progress... MORE BUMP!
