front brake suggestions

hey guys, car needs a front brake service soon and wanted to know what you guys recommend, as in which pads and which discs. I want to go with drilled rotors, maybe drilled and slotted . I may go with a drilled rotor and just OEM pads unless you guys recommend something after market that performs better

thanks

I decided to go GENUINE BMW pads plus rotors for all four wheels. Cost just over $1,000 all up installed.

If you are after something non-standard, try these ECS 2-pce drilled/slotted discs. There are available locally through BMR at http://www.bmraw.com/bmw-335i-2-piece-brake-rotors/. I have them any the perform very well and look pretty cool behind open spoke wheels . I matched that with a set of Stoptech drilled discs for the rear.

Pads are a whole minefield and largely depends on what you are seeking from them. I went with Akebono ceramics and they are great. They have a different characteristic to stock pads as they have a more linear brake feel and don't have the initial bite of stock pads. However, braking performance is not lacking. You will very quickly get used to them. The huge advantage is they are virtually dustless and that saves you a lot in wheel cleaning.

thanks for the replies guys, had a look around and I think that the Akebono Ceramic ones are what I'll go with, really cbf dealing with brake dust.

I'll have a look at the BMR site for the ECS discs and compare prices with what my friend can get me. I've heard that drilled don't make much/any more noise than the stock ones but apparently the slotted discs are quite noisy/squeaky. Anyone got any experience with this?

thanks

Well, the ECS ones in combo with the Akebono pads do not make any noise at all and no diff to stock setup. I am totally satisfied by both fwiw.

Hey

I went and got the BMW Performance front brakes fitted some time ago and never looked back. I have driven other BMW's with standard brakes and it is noticeably different.

They aren't cheap but I'm glad I didn't eat for a month so I could get them.

just ordered Akebono EUR918 Ceramic pads. Now just need to choose a disc

don't really feel like (read: can't afford) to go with the ECS 2 piece rotors, I'm sure they are nice and look damn good but yeah
Are the normal crossed drilled and slotted brakes that BMR sells any good? what brand are they? I've heard R1Concepts are pretty decent on the american forum but can't find them locally.

Last time I asked Stu, the normal ones are from ECS as well.

I'm using R1 concepts at the moment, can't fault them. Think I will go 2 piece or BBK the next time I change my rotors.

For bling, go BMW Performance

Otherwise ECS / R1 Concept / Stoptech. Pretty much all the same imo.

just an update, rotors arrived today and I just need to pick up the pads from the post office

installing this coming week, maybe this weekend if I can squeeze in some time, I'll update with photos if anyone wants to see how the stock size brakes look with slotted and drilled rotors.
I want to do the rears but the previous owner did them just before I bought the car about 7k kms ago so I think I still have some time before I have to replace them.

Lol. Get the pads that suit your driving.

No point getting mad gangsta ones when you are just going to be pulling donuts in car parks. Lol
