Off to the darkside - Merc incoming

After almost 12 years exclusively in BMW, I've got a C250cdi Sport Coupe AMG Edition 125 Auto being delivered on Friday.

Taking a risk as I've not even driven one, but been keeping an eye on the lease offers over the last few months I decided to take the plunge

I'm hoping to halve my fuel bills, exchanging 26mpg for 50mpg+, without sacrificing too much performance. No tax and cheaper insurance appeal as well.

They are loaded with kit as standard, including bi-xenons, DAB, and Command. I've also got leather and hfs.

Reviews read well, I'll post up pics on Friday weather permitting.

As for the 335i, I planned to keep it for the wife and flog her x3. I forgot about the fact that would leave me 2 four seaters which leaves the mother in law stranded on the odd family trip and us struggling to accomodate my kids friends. Not exactly sure what to do with 537 bhp of surplus bmw! (thats a hint that offers of £13k for a 335i and £8.5k for an X3 will be accepted - pm's only please)

A little piggy squealed so was expecting this post!! Sounds very nice. Funnily enough I was in one (lower spec) on Friday; lovely smooth ride, sure you'll be liking that with your mileage.

The roofline was odd inside, seemed low right near the top of the windscreen, nearly touching my head, then dipped up to allow more headroom (didn't really fool me as my eyes could still sense the low initial roof so just assumed my head was virtually touching it; only by glancing at the driver could I tell more space was allowed). Perhaps the seat was set too high so lowering it would resolve this sense of a low roof. Other than that a lovely looking car and yours sounds particularly tasty.

Look forward to hearing your review & pics.

Really can't believe how many people are buying these.

The Caribbean islands will be flooded with MB salespeople spending their bonuses this Christmas I'm sure.

What price did you lease it for?

I managed to get a decent monthly lease price on an SLK 200 AMG Sport Auto Ed125 from my local dealer (£300/month) but I actually prefer the C Class Coupe, the SLK has bugger all room. There are plenty of C220/250 Coupe AMG Sport Ed125 Autos with decent additional spec, that have just been preregistered on 61 plates and offer substantial savings over brand new, but the monthly payments are just too high for me.

I like the look of them and the interior is top drawer. Not as good as the A5 in my view but nevertheless good.

Cheers Roger. I've sat it one, felt fine to me. Headroom never a problem, and only need kids in back.

£490 inc Vat on a 3x 23 for 20k miles per year. 10p excess/mile after that.

Would have been £460 but I made them find one with the full leather (not half) and hfs - this cost me another £30/month.

Initial quote that caught my eye was for something like £400 for 10k/mile

Seems great value Paul and a nicely spec'd car

Seems we won't all be staying with BMW for our next car

Not SLKing then Peter? Cheap though aren't they at £299 inc Vat for 3+11.

Sounds nice pjs - what colour did you go for - any pics of a similar car - are these AMGs on 18s or 19s?

£400 for this is very good value - look good on 18s. Like the steering wheel - looks like a nice place to sit.

Merc really seem to be getting the "driver appeal" right - its not surprising that they are attracting many buyers.

I like the look of the SLK, but it really is a 'one seater' as far as my usage would go. There is virtually no room in the boot with the roof down, and not much more with it up and there is no room at all behind the seats. As I usually travel with bags and other stuff the only place to put it would be the passenger seat and foot well - not practical.

The C Class Coupe looks the part, and it appears that Merc Dealers have pre registered loads. It's not my favourite coupe, I think I prefer the A5 but the Merc looks good value.

That one seems very expensive. I was talking to a dealer yesterday about a black with red leather C Class Coupe C250 CDI AMG Sport 11 plate with lots of extras (COMAND, pano roof, hfs etc) and it was £5K cheaper than that.

The stumbling block for me is the value of my 120d, which is not looking good.
