Clutch flywheel fitment

I think most of you know that there is the single mass flywheel conversion kit from VALEO for the 325i/328i. I was on the UUC website few days ago and saw that they listed it fitting the 330i also. I called them to double check since everywhere else it says that it only fits 325i/328i, and they confirmed from VALEO fitment chart the 330i is not listed there anymore. Obviously they updated the website to show that the kit does not fit the 330i anymore. My question is anyone ever install the VALEO single mass conversion kit on a 330i? Will there be any downsides? I am pretty sure it will fit but I do know that the 330i has a stronger stock clutch.

Any help is much appreciated!

I bought one myself for the 328i - but I don't see why it WOULDN'T work. The Flywheel between the 2 cars are the same, and the 330i uses the same clutch as the 328xi I believe. Double check realoem and order - I got mine for under $600 shipped on ECS.

I'm about to replace mine and I'm super interested in a lighter setup. How did you like it when you had it installed? Any drive train judders or rattles?

This is not really lighter. The single mass flywheel is made to be same weight as DMF

Yeah the price difference is HUGE. If this works I will be very happy.

I checked REALOEM - the 330i does use the same clutch as the 328xi. You should be fine.

Yeah I just looked 325xi and 328xi use the same clutch as 330i. I think the only way to know is to measure the VALEO kit clutch plate. That is the only difference. The 325i/328i use 228mm and the 325xi/328xi/330i use 240mm. Is there a way you could check that when you get your kit in?

If I have a chance, I will. But if the kit is compatible with the 328xi - you should be fine.

It doesn't say anymore that it is. After UUC removed the 330i they removed the xi's too. I went through ECS and other retailers and xi is not listed. If you could man you would be a life saver!!

I looked at the VALEO catalogue, this conversion kit is numbered 835115, the clutch plate in this kit is 9 and 7/16 inch which equals to about 240mm. 240mm is the size of 325xi/328xi/330i clutch plate. 325i/328i have 228mm clutch plate which is 9 inches.

Should be good to go. Will be ordering the kit this weekend and let you know if any problems arise.

Does that extra 7/16th of an inch make a difference? I don't know, ask you girl.
Glad you figured it out buddy.

I'd like to know what the 7/16 does.. What is the difference other than it being bigger?

Adds the extra 11mm needed to make 240mm clutch plate. Everything is the same excepet the size of the clutch plate. According to VALEO website this kit has the bigger clutch plate that is the same size as the 325xi/328xi and 330i plates.

yes a 240mm clutch disk is a significant difference over 228mm. It's quite a bit more surface area - 90478 sq mm vs 81656 sq mm. It basically can hold more torque without being as "stiff".

That said, 228mm is fine - there are lots of high-HP/tq BMWs running on 228mm clutch disks. The friction material and clamping force also matter - so as long as it can hold the ~300nm of an N52B30, it should be fine.

I pulled the trigger and ordered everything. The kit will be here tomorrow and I will measure the clutch disc to put this at rest. Will be a great option for the 325xi/328xi/330i/xi guys. Will update more tomorrow.

Cool! Thanks for doing this. At 150k miles, my clutch is due soon, and I kept wondering if this was a good route.

Another option is to just use a different 240mm clutch disk with the Valeo flywheel/pressure plate. I'm not sure if the spline count on the N52 transmissions are different from previous BMWs, but there are a lot of options out there for sprung hub 240mm disks.

Great success!! I received the kit today, was shipped directly from Valeo. The clutch disc does measure 240mm. This will work for the 325xi/328xi/330i and is an upgrade for the 325i and 328i.

That is great news!

Quite a few of us are looking forward to your review of both how installation goes, and how the clutch/drivetrain feels afterwards.

Any update? I too have a 2006 330i e90 and need to replace the clutch. I had the Valeo kit saved on my bookmark from uuc and now it no longer says it will fit. I just want to make sure the splines are the same before I buy.. I have emailed Valeo but it's been a week with no reply.. any help would be greatly appreciated! !
