Probably to make it something exclusive to the M... they should offer it as an optional upgrade though.

Totally understand that for most people RWD with a good set of snows makes sense...however if you live further north of the GTA or on back country roads I have experienced both.....and that is precisely why I changed from my last BMW.
If i were to go back to the city or the suburbs then RWD all the way!

Audi...BMW...has the legendary "stump puller" 1st gear in AWD in manual cars. Geared very low for initial traction problems. They do this since the thought is AWD is for conditions with difficult traction conditions. Frustrating as you get to red line fast, with out much speed.
