Lease Cars

Hi all,

My wife and I are expecting are first baby and the having a TT and 911 doesn't really work As the TT is a company car the company have been very good and reallocated the car so we can go back on the allowance but we need to get a car ASAP!!

I need some help with people that have done a personal lease. I am looking to lease a car and have a couple of questions around the V5 and insurance.

Do you get a copy of the V5 and if so who's name is on it?

All of the insurances company ask if you are the registered keeper and the legal owner, how are people answering these questions? It seems to make a massive impact on the insurance if you are not the registered keeper (nearly 3 times the cost)

Any examples or experiences in doing this please let me know who you found it and any issues etc/

Also if anyone has seen any deal on a 4x4 or family car (Audi, Merc or BMW) please forward as we need to get a car ASAP.

Thanks in advance

I lease a Qashqai for the wife that we use as the family car. Its on a 2 year contract hire at £240/month(inc VAT) including all maintenance. Its provided by Arval and was arranged through contracthireacar.com

You won't get a copy of the V5. I had no problems at all with the insurance. You are the registered keeper but not the owner - this is no different from any other kind of car finance scheme.

I've always leased apart from my current car and never had an insurance issue. Mind you, never had to claim either, thankfully, but as Chris said you will be the registered keeper anyway.

I have a contract hire vehicle and I am not the registered keeper but insurance company didn't seem to mind that BMW have the v5 and are the registered keeper.

Technically that is probably a PCP you are on rather than personal contract hire. My CLS is the same even though it came through a lease broker it is on Mercedes Agility PCP.

I have found price comparison sites don't work well when you tick the box you are not the registered keeper as they then exclude certain companies, but I've tried saying yes I am, getting the best quote, and then checking with the insurance company directly and they were fine with it.

i lease/ch two and pcp a third

the lease co are on the V5 as they send the tax disc and happily told Lothian and Borders police that my company leased the car ooops

some insurers are picky, other couldn't careless but, and it can be a big but, if it gets written off and the lease co don't get the full amount from your insurer, i understand (and happy to be corrected) they can ask you for the rest, that is why it is recommend that you have a shortfall policy - name escapes me. similar for HP

don't think it is always a great way to buy a car as you pay their depreciation and can get royally f'cked if you exceed the mileage and the condition is not what they expect.

We had to have one car pre-inspected and sorted at our rates before handing it back and not Lex leasing's repair rates.

i used to HP and return after 50% and have done for years, (WITH NO CREDIT HISTORY PENALTIES) it was only because the rules on capital allowances changed that i haven't done for two recent cars.

good sites are nationwide vehicle contracts - we have a car through them

i wouldn't go to alphabet (bmw) my bmw is through them, not impressed with their definition of a maintenance policy, not worth £100 per month + vat

one car is through new car discount.com (who lives in my village) and used to be AUF - Warrington

arval will deal with you and uk car discount appears ok with reasonable discounts and HP/PCP rates. At least it gives you a target price to negotiate with

car manufacturers direct can be worth it to, as can drive the deal

Technically you are wrong. It is called a MB Operating Lease agreement. All t&c are with Mercedes after being sourced through a broker called Niche.
