Pretty much sums it up for me.

With what we’ve seen with Mercedes-AMG bringing more and more products under the AMG banner with milder performance, it hasn’t really been a drag on the AMG image ... yet. However, given the legions of avid fans of BMW’s flagship performance division has cultivated over the decades, BMW might not have the same experience.

Why do you like the title ?
I call TOTAL BS. If Mercedes can tart out the AMG name on a bunch of sedans, then BMW can throw some M sport badges around just the same way.
all this chicken little stuff about the sky falling because BMW is introducing 5 ALL NEW models and updating 10 others is ridiculous.

The only new M models in that listing are in bold below.

F87 M2 CS

F97 X3M
F98 X4M

F91 M8 Convertible
F92 M8
F93 M8 GC

F95 X5M
F96 X6M

G80 M3
G82 M4
G83 M4 Convertible

the others are all updates.. the M2 CS hasn't been officially announced so I left it out. And since the M8 really replaces the M6... the M8 models are essentially update models also. IN other words.. the actual number of M offerings that is being increased is limited to M4 CS, M3 CS, M2 CS , X4M, X3M. The addition of 5 new models to the M car lineup isn't that big a deal at all

The proliferation of M sport models will not change anything just as M Technic didn't change things in the past.

If the gear shifting is automated, it's an automatic transmission.

If the gear is shifted manually, it's a manual transmission.

Not sure how people have trouble with that concept.
As a DCT owner.

I couldn't agree more.

There are two types of transmissions.

1) Manual (Clutch Pedal)
2) Automatic (Everything Else)
No,
There are 2 types of changing gears: manually operate the clutch, or have it done automatically.

But there are many types of transmissions:

Well, if you wanna go there.

How do you explain multi-gear electric motors?

EDIT:::::

I see your point. On a technicality... but that's what wins court cases, right?

I stand by my general statement.

A DCT Transmission is an Automatic.

I have, and still enjoy, the benefits of manual, automatic and DCT transmissions.

I don't drive my Merc diesel wishing I was more involved with a manual or DCT!

I just sense a bit of arrogance that a person driving a DCT is somehow less involved with the driving experience than the purist with the manual.

I had a DINAN SC E36 with manual, and it was fantastic and I never wanted that car with an automatic.

Drove both a manual and DCT E90 M3 and the DCT was a better choice for me. I suppose If I had opted for the manual and put on the BMW driving shoes, I would have been a better driver and more spiritually connected with the vehicle.

To each their own

At least a BMW isn't a reincarnation of an econobox chassis like an VW...I meant Audi.

The F8X and this new one isn't making me drool over one for a bunch of reasons.

Why can't they put the S58 in the M2, stuff an S63TUTU into the M3/4 and put a ridiculous 7L V10 with 800 HP into the M5/6?

I hope in the near future that BMW changes course and makes less BMWs that are more exclusive, raises their prices by 100% and just outright knocks the performance competition on it's ass. I bet then, we will see and hear a whole different kind of ///Moaning when ///M is out of reach.

Also let's hope they make the M models more aggressive looking in a sleek manner. More bulging wheel arches! Like I just saw on a new M2.

Time for M xDrive with rear bias!!!

Seems like the best thing is either de-badge completely and let looks and performance define the model. Or, third party branding by someone like IND. or... plexi hoods. Lighter and everyone can see the actual motor, lol.

Brand awareness vs Brand value. Fine line.

Only automated manual in a proper E36 M3 came in 6 speed SMG.

DCT was always a favorable option to go for if you wanted to take easy on
your left foot and go fast. It is a huge mistake to replace with dead fish zf 8 speed IMO. It would go fast, but would not provide even a tenth of the connection and ferocity as DCT.

Numb steering feel applied to ~94 with s50b30 euro. Did not apply to s50b32.
