FRM update to NFRM
Hi guys,
I am looking to possibly upgrade my frm unit (2005 320d) to a newer model so that I can have the welcome lights function. My problem is that I don\'t have a clue which is the right FRM unit that I should buy? Could some one tell me the BMW code of the part or any more details regarding the spec of the part I need to buy? I found this on eBay but I am not sure is it the right one? http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=220924818291&index=0&nav=SEARCH&ni d=88995413154 I have a suspicion that this is the wrong part for some reason Please let me know... Thanks |

No, that part is the original footwell module (FRM1). For welcome lights you need at least FRM2 (from about 03/07 prod.) or the newest FRM3 (from 09+).
You can enter a part no. into realoem.com and you'll see which version of footwell module it is. The category will be 'footwell module', 'footwell module 2' or 'footwell module 3'. Hope that clears it up. |

The main issue you may have is a lack of connectors inside the door for the lights to plug into, in which case there may be no simple solution. 'Welcome Lights' is a feature available for cars with FRM2 (03/07 + prod.), which enables you to code any (I believe) lights on your car to turn on when you unlock it. For example you can have angel eyes/license plate lights turn on. |

^^It has been discussed many times on this board alone.
Welcome lights are not part of the FRM 1 module (limited by either hardware or the software) |

OK thanks guys, One more question Is it a big job to swap the FRM modules over?
I read somewhere that you have to ref lash the module with the car's VIN etc, before you connect connect in to the car etc... I also read about people reporting that after the swap they have had problems, and some lights weren't working properly... Can any one confirm this? |

I am also interested in swapping my FRM1 module as I am doing the halogen to xenon upgrade and would like to activate the Angel Eyes as DRL, soft on etc. Can you please post the setps on how to code an NEW FRM2 module from the stock FRM1. Any help would be great as BMW here in Portugal won't code the unit for me as the xenon kit was a retrofit done by me, funny huh? Thanks |
