Scrolling with the iDrive

Hi,

I have a quick q, when i am in the phonebook, or running down the navigation POIs etc the screen only shows 5 options (eg a1, a2, a3...) but I am sure there are more (eg a4, a5...) as I cannot get all the contacts in the phonebook, but they are definately there because they appear on voice dialling and there are arrows up and down on the side of the selected screen.

When I get to the end of the 5 displayed options how do i continue down, as the iDrive seems to stop rotating clockwise...

I am not sure that that made reasonable sense...it is 2am!!!

Thank you for the help!!

just hold the knob to the far right or left, it should feel a little tight, and begin to click as each new entry is displayed. once you are at the end of the list, it should stop clicking and prevent you from twisting the knob any further.

This is normal. It's stupid, but it's normal. You have to give it so much pressure to scroll off the screen that it feels like it's breaking. It's not.

Wow...that is nuts...it feels as though it's going to snap right off....why did BMW come up with that...what's wrong with simply letting it rotate...???

If it helps, you get used to it.

i thought it was stupid at first also, but when you become familiar with the menus, this features allows you to "fiddle" with idrive without taking your eyes off the road. u get use to it, then it becomes second nature, brilliant IMHO.

Its a "haptic" interface. Similar to rumble packs for video games it gives force feedback so you can potentially control the interface with out even looking.

This really shines when you get used to the order of your preset radio stations. You can switch back and forth without even looking and also know when you get to the end of the list.
