should i use the AA vehicle inspection service

OK so I have virtually done a deal on a 330i demonstrator with a dealer who is 130 miles from my home and I cannot go and see the car before i buy it - do you advice paying the AA to do a 125 point inspection which includes a 10 mile road test and written report. The dealer tells me no need to because they have higher stands etc etc etc but my previous experience in Hereford in 2002 tells me that they will lie and cheat to me if they can get the sale.

My problem is I am out of the country and i wont be able to see the car - and I dont want to miss out on this car.

I can use the AA report as a negotiating tactic.

If its an approved used car which it will be then it has to meet certain standards. I will see if I can find them on the website. What dealer is it?

Is it BMW main dealer? If so I wouldn't as I think they do this anyway.

If not depending on price of AA check and if it will give you piece of mind go for it.

I think they do a 120 point check as part of the package, you could ask for the report maybe

Are you swapping your 6 Series for the 3 or keeping them both?

Hi Porscha - keeping the 645 to go with 330i for my wife to share - we are trading in the A6 that my wife drives it is the biggest crock of shit I have ever had in my life. OMG the engine blew up I had to pay £4000 out of the £8k cost, the engine was crap anyway and the car drove like a whale.

My first bmw, a 328I sport coupe was bought approved used, turned out it had a new rear end following a big shunt that only came to light when it started to rust. Was repaired again properly at their expense. Was in 1999 though, so make your own judgement.

Used AA or RAC to check out a Clio 182 for the missus a few years ago, looked mint, turned out to be another crashed/repaired - even though a very good job.

Personally though, my actions in continuining to buy approved used without an additional inspection suggest that I dont think it is worth it.

MikeM had some issues with his AUC M3, got it home and it had few issues which were rectified under warranty.

Do not worry.

(Although personally i would never ever buy a car without seeing it)
